  • Israel-PM 1898-1978 Golda Meir celebrated her 48th birthday and started her Shani mahadasha in 1947. In 1948, the nation of Israel was officially born. The ensuring 19 years produced a relentless series of leadership responsibilities as the young nation organized itself. Shani also produced an equally relentless series of confrontations with the enemies of the state (6) as well as her own health struggles with lymphoma (6th-from-Chandra). Whilst a committed and dauntless leader in a very difficult and defensive situation (Shani-7 obligation to defend the land) she was sickened (6) during the entire mahadasha.

Shani rules 8-9, and Shani rules 4-5 Yogakaraka from Chandra-lagna

  • Cleopatra 1932-2011 AIDS activist Elizabeth Taylor endured the mahadasha of Shani-Makara-8 from her age 6 until age 25. She described how her success as a child actress kept her parents interested in her and engaged in their marriage. As a little girl, she understood that if she did not bear the weight of responsibility to keep her parents together, the structure of her life would collapse. She believed that deprivation was required in the form of little schooling, few play-friends, no non-instrumental amusements. She could look as if she were playing in order for the photographers to shoot their promotional photos, but playing like all of her other life activities was staged according to rules set by the cinematic studio bosses. She was a paid worker from the age of 6, earning her first contract at age 7.

Leadership Duties, Public Respect, and Professional Recognition

When Shani rules the 7th or 10th radical bhava or 10th navamsha or 10th-from-Chandra, Professor Shanaicarya carries the potential to elevate the native into socially recognized positions of leadership duty associated with governance, regulation, systematization, hierarchies, and the maintenance of the social order. Promotion and obtainment of professional portfolio may be expected.

For maximum results, Shani should possess other strengths via bhava rulership, razi, companion graha, drizti, inter alia.

Marriage

If Shani rules either navamsha-1 or navamsha-7 and there occurs a suitable transit of Rahu-Ketu to one of the required axes of the nativity, Shani-Shani swabhukti being the advent of a new life era, may signal the timing of ceremonial wedding * formalization of alliance.

  • POTUS-pair-37 Watergate 1912-1993 Pat Ryan Nixon married POTUS-37 Watergate 1913-1994 Richard Nixon on 21-June-1940. Shani rules her 7th navamsha, and samchara Rahu-Ketu crossed her Kanya-Meena contact radical lagna

  • POTUS-pair-16 Illinois 1818-1882 Mary Todd Lincoln married POTUS-16 Emancipation Proclamation Abraham Lincoln on 04-Nov-1842 in Springfield, Illinois. She was 23; he was 33. Shani-Shani swabhukti * Rahu-Ketu transit Dhanuzya-Mithunaya contact Mithunaya Chandra

Such a marriage arrangement would be characterized by a heavy load of social duties, and generally be subject to regulation by elders . The conventional expectations regarding division of labor within the union must be scrupulously maintained, particularly with regard to social class, age, position in the hierarchy, caste, and rank. However if the native is of mature and sober character, and able to accept the weighty responsibility implicit in a Shani-timed ceremony of agreement, then the marriage may succeed.

If the native has passed the age of Shani's maturity 36, the alliance can be both realistic and fulfilling. Typically Shani-timed weddings align with attainment of dignified social standing while the native also experiences pressure to form a partnership according to the conventions of the social order.

When Shani rules the 1-7 navamsha axis, one was born into an orderly view of negotiated contracts. Therefore so long as an unrealistic expectations of charming poetic romance, frivolity or fun are disavowed, the benefits of Shani's rigid character may be realized including loyalty to the contract and longevity of the working pair.

Maraka Agency for Professor Shani * Exit Opening for fleshdeath

When Shani rules bhava-2 or bhava-7, Professor Shanaicarya becomes a potential marana-karaka who gives teachings upon the subject of saturation (2) and balanced completion of the contract (7).

Measured from Karkata lagna or from Simha lagna, Shani obtains maraka empowerment as ruler of jaya-bhava-7.

Measured from Dhanuzya lagna or Makara lagna, Shani obtains maraka empowerment as ruler of dhana-bhava-2.

Perhaps a little fun could be allowed...

His leadership ability was sustained due to a powerful harsha yoga which improves in conditions of war and poverty. Nevertheless Budha randhresha was able to erupt into a life-changing illness that created major life trauma. 9. Ketu-Dhanuzya
  10. Ketu-Makara
  11. Ketu-Kumbha
  12. Ketu-Meena

Both Shani and Ketu can represent vatta conditions of dryness, coldness, windiness, separation and distance. The Shani-Ketu period may present challenges related to long separations, severance of ties, isolation, or abandonment. Often some semblance of external dignity and structure is maintained under the auspice of Mahadashapathi Shani. However the bhuktipathi Ketuva may generate conditions of swirling windiness, disorientation, and dispersal.

  • POTUS-pair-40 Just Say No 1921-2016 Nancy Davis Reagan * during her Shani-Ketu period during infancy, Nancy was abandoned by her divorcing parentsand placed in the care of relatives. During Shani-Rahu period 10 years later, she was reunited with her mother, who had relocated and remarried.

Generally, Vimshottari periods of Professor Ketu are scheduled for the purpose of release and forgiveness. The substance, idea, person, relationship, entity, or social role that is surrendered during the Ketu period is by definition spiritually unnecessary. It has outlived its usefulness and it has lost its vitality Maintaining this enervated phenomenon (whatever it is) is costing too much energy within the life system. Thus it is scheduled for release at the appointed time.

Examples of things to be released include experiences from other lives which have expired in their relevance to the current life, outdated relationships that no longer match the authentic life-force energy of the native, parts of the body that may be holding genetic memories that are scheduled for release (hair, teeth, appendix, sometimes other limbs or organs) and other similar scenarios.

Professor Ketu is Rahu's dried and lifeless tail which flutters in the ethers like a flag in the wind. Therefore Ketu periods are often associated with the cutting-off of some desiccated appendage. Along with Professor Mangala, Ketu is the co-ruler of transformative randhra-bhava-8. After releasing the unnecessary form, one often begins a path toward rejuvenation.

Results of Shani-Ketu period are likely to be tough if one insists on clutching to outdated attachments. During Ketu periods, one scatters like dust in the wind.

Surrender yields success. All grasping fails.

  • Immediately following his Shani-Budha period success in undergraduate studies, POTUS-26 National Parks 1843-1919 Theodore Roosevelt enrolled at Columbia Law School, and was expected to perform brilliantly. He got married during the final days of Budha bhukti as Budha rules his navamsha. Future looked very bright! However, his Shani-Ketu period began and Roosevelt completely abandoned law studies (Ketu); taking no diploma, and never practiced law. Shani occupies 12th from Ketu, so that there is very little forward-moving energy available during this period. For such a powerhouse as Teddy Roosevelt to do nothing seemed against nature, but in fact he did little except join a political party (Ketu-Simha) and wait to get nominated.

If Ketu occupies a dusthamsha (bhava 6-8-12) there is potential signification for disruption or dismemberment. The outcome may occur in a wide range of patterns, including

  • physical (loss of limb or organ)

  • social (divorce, broken trust, disappointed expectations)
  • mental derangement(scattering of coherent thought)
  • financial disintegration (dispersal of collected assets)

Other possible expressions depending of the characteristics of the Ruler of Ketu.

  • Pope-264 John-Paul-II 1920-2005 Karol Wojtyla was shot in his hands and his stomach during an assassination attempt on 13-May-1981 in Roma, Italia. The Ketu of Il Papa occupies Mesha-12 and Ketu receives Parashari drishti of atmakaraka Mangala (gunshot). Ketu has no maraka power for this nativity. He lived and served for another 24 years.

Only on the spiritual plane does etheric-natured Ketu provide substantial benefits. However Ketu's capability to blow away the dust-cloud which shrouds the spiritual vision is immensely valuable to those who recognize that they have just been shown the Big Picture.

Shani-Ketu by karaka power also generates profound psychological detachment with an underlying (often subconscious) expectation of wandering and abandonment. This underlying expectation is very karmic because it brings forth a self-fulfilling prophecy of surrender and identity annihilation which reflects trauma from parallel lives. Shani imposes the conventional rules but Ketu is a wanderer.

  • Faust 1749-1832 polymath Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1775 was trying to maintain a romance and engagement to Lili Schoenemann but the engagement "lapsed" after months of traveling. (He finally did get married to another woman, but only 31 years later in 1806.) * Shani-Ketu period * Ketu wandering, broken bonds

If the angle from Shani to Ketu is stable (4-10, 5-9, any angle involving 2 kendra or 2 trines) a stable grounded angle can mitigate major Ketu effects like homelessness and chronic wandering. It won't be so severe then on the physical plane. Rather, it is mainly psychological, brining a sense of hopelessness and defeat, a "why even try" psychology of despair.

This feeling of dismemberment can be counteracted via meditation. Ketu periods are SPLENDID for religious or philosophical meditations! Also effective are homeopathic grief remedies such as Ignatia Amara which can release the loss-and-grief patterns long-stored in the fleshbody's cell memory.

Ketu can create the ILLUSION of abandonment due to disconnection. You might feel absolutely unable to connect psychologically, physically, or socially with your spouse. At the center of the despair drama can be a bhava-home, because Ketu = 4th from Shani.

It is not necessary to materialize the abandonment-disconnection drama (think of the tragic myth of Ketu being suddenly cut off from his head Rahu) if one has the good sense to realize that much of the self fulfilling prophecy is just that: a negative expectation which can prevent taking practical positive steps toward a solution.

If one can pull out of the fearful depression which Shani-Ketu often induces, it will become apparent that there is an opportunity to Negotiate both marital and financial situations.

Ketu's worst effects are generally the consequences of giving up too early in the struggle to reorganize resources.

Try to keep your wits about you. It is only a drama from the past, re-playing so that one can take responsible ownership of the dynamics and then it will be finished.

Ketu is not desired by Rahu. Feelings of emptiness and rejection.

Before fully realizing that the Desired One no longer matches the authentic spiritual body, Ketu periods may produce a vain hope for connection with an unavailable or inappropriate person, social role, idea, or object. Before the realization of the need to release the attachment, even knowing that the desire is lifeless, one may experience the illusion of connection which dissipates into fantasy, numbness, or distraction. Desires are dispersed into "echo" awareness that one is not desired by the object of affection. This is merely an echo of one's own higher consciousness signaling that this Object is no longer suitably connected to oneself * although in other lives and other realities the Object may have been a vital companion.

The barest vestige of a faded connection

Professor Ketu often induces a feeling of attempted reconnection with a person, place, thing, or idea that was significant in a previous life or in a distant phase of the present life. However, the attachment is vestigial, no longer part of the vital script of the true present identity. Thus, connection is often unsustainable for reasons of spirit. The reasons of spirit often have more tangible echoes in reasons of social class attributes, reasons of knowledge lineage, reasons of ethnicity or race, reasons of doctrine, and other formal rationale. However the definitive reason for the "non-connection" experience of Ketu is that one sees the object of attachment in a distant mirror, as a mere reflection of an already completed script. The object, for its part, will generally not allow the native to make more than a temporary and superficial connection to itself.

The material-social relationship may survive in skeleton form, while the spiritually conscious intent retreats into the nebulous status of dissociation from social-validation seeking ego-membrane.

Career and Profession

Any ruler of the 10th radical bhava or 10th navamsha or 10th-from-Chandra will carry the potential to elevate the native into socially recognized positions of leadership duty. However Ketu rules no bhava, and by His nature professor Ketu is distracted and apathetic toward assertions regarding reality and form. Shri Ketuva knows that apparent form is impermanent.

On the rare occasion that a career promotion would occur during Ketu bhukti, one may slip away from the duties of governance despite public expectations. Nevertheless Ketu bhukti periods are splendid for acts of abandonment and surrender. One may be "recognized" and honored as a pure one, clean, sainted during Ketu periods. Yet the form-ignoring native remains detached from any such praise and the whole charade seems rather meaningless.

Marriage

Professor Ketu is teaching a curriculum that focuses upon topics of impermanence, severance, amputation, abandonment, wandering, windiness, disemburdenment, and surrender. Naturally Ketu periods support psycho-spiritual opening of awareness and ego-dissolving projects.

Normally, the purpose of marriage is to establish a permanent and fruitful bond of mutual trust. Therefore marriage avowal during Ketu periods is rare and unusual.

A marriage ceremony performed during Ketu bhukti may remain unconsummated. The spouse disappears either literally or figuratively, or the behavior of the spouse is exceptionally irregular, dispersed, or eccentric.

Much depends on Ketu's ruler and upon any graha which may share a rashi with Professor Ketu.

Divorce and separation

Much more commonly than signalling marriage, Ketu periods represent marital separation and if other factor indicate it, divorce.

  • General Electric CEO 1935- Jack Welch underwent a highly contentious and expensive divorce following disclosure of his ongoing marital infidelity. His adversary-wife was an elite corporate attorney. Her legal representation disproved the validity (Ketu invalidation) of Welch's prenuptial protective agreement, and achieved a 180-million settlement in her favor. As soon as the Shani-Ketu period ended and his Zukra-lagnesha period began, Welch remarried wife-3.

Maraka Agency for Professor Ketuva * Exit Opening for fleshdeath

When Ketu is ruled by a graha which itself rules bhava-2 or bhava-7, Professor Ketu becomes a potential marana-karaka who gives teachings upon the subject of saturation (2) and balanced completion of the contract (7).

Ketu also has, independent of His planetary ruler, the individual chidra-kakara agency of a beheader, cord-cutter, incisor, shredder, slicer, and amputator.

Therefore the teaching periods of Professor Ketu always carry the potential scatter the material-world forms. Those "left behind" may perceive Ketu's molecular dispersal as a physical death.

sad comments of one who lost "the love of my life" at the beginning of a Ketu bhukti. "Where did all his love go, everything he had said till now for the past year just became useless in one go, as if suddenly the Maya, the illusion came out in the open. At that time, it all became wind and just flew away . I was so shocked to see this side of him. His real face was now finally out in open. But by now I had lost myself and my everything in this."

Zukra is a yogakaraka when counted from Maraka and Kumbha. Therefore Makara and Kumbha nativities may expect pleasurable (Zukra) outcomes according to the bhava being highlighted.

Promotion and obtainment of professional portfolio may be expected. For maximum results, Zukra should possess other strengths via bhava rulership, razi, companion graha, drizti, inter alia.

Uttama-Zukra represents the contributions of his wife in addition to his own diplomatic skills. Zukra has strength for politics as lagnesha, yuti-Surya, and occupying the 10th navamsha. However Zukra-yuti-Ketu in 10th navamsha suggests that he would need to govern without the support of partners-advisers. He was unable to sustain a working cabinet due to fractiousness and greed, and his wife died just before he assumed office.

  • POTUS-16 Emancipation 1809-1865 Abraham Lincoln * Makara lagna containing Shravana Chandra, so that his uttama- Meena-Zukra Becomes a yogakaraka from both the radical lagna and from Chandra-lagna . Zukra also rules Lincoln's 10th navamsha. Although the rough, gaunt, rural, self-taught attorney Lincoln was a "dark horse" candidate for the POTUS-16 position, the nation was desperate for a "super-Zukra" personality who could bring agreement between the bitterly warring North and South factions. Uttama-Zukra represents the contributions of his wife in addition to his own diplomatic skills. Lincoln's powerful yogakaraka uttama Zukra is expanded by Meena-Guru, and Guru casts drishti upon Mahadashapathi Shani. The extreme outsider Lincoln won the USA national election for POTUS-16 on 06-Nov-1860 during his Shani-Zukra period. Lincoln remains one of the most beloved USA presidents because his Zukra empowerments brought an end to the terrible Civil War.

  • German Bundeskanzlerin 2005- Angela Merkel Nov-2005 first election to Chancellor of Germany * Shani-Zukra period * Zukra lagnesha rules uttama-Shani in 10th-from-Chandra . She earned three subsequent re-elections to the Kanzler role, holding the highest responsibilities in Europe for an unprecedented term exceeding 15 years.

Marriage

Any Zukra period during any mahadasha is a common and beneficial time to join the partner in a marriage contract.

  • During his Shani-Zukra period in Nov-1886, the mother and constant companion of Gospel of Wealth 1835-1919 Andrew Carnegie left her fleshbody. Zukra rules 2nd-from-4th. Observers claimed that his doting momma had blocked Andra's marriage aspirations for many years, preferring to remain herself in the role of his primary mate (Chandra rules 7). Five months following momma's death he was finally able to marry at age 52 under auspice of agreement-maker Zukra.

Often a challenging bhukti period for the unprepared, since Shani and Surya are mortal enemies and they carry opposing, incompatible agendas. Shani's duty is maintenance of the social order, whereas Surya's brilliant individuality (aditya, eternal no-limits indivisible). Nevertheless, presuming that one has passed the age of 22, any period of Surya is likely to uplift the confidence and place one in center-stage roles according to Surya's rashi and bhava.

The previous Zukra period has emphasized and often evoked important avowed, arranged, and contractual relationships. Now the Surya period suggests a move away from concern with balancing the interests of the Other, and toward a clearer self-focus. Surya periods may be slightly easier for males due to the self-assertion implied. However much depends upon the relative angle between Shani and Surya, and upon the relative strengths of Shani and Surya.

General characteristics of a Chandra period

An era of amplified feelings for home and homeland. One may seek residence near the ocean shores, or shipbound. Retreat to safety and a secure routine. Typically, Chandra periods mark times of quiet retreat, ideally near the ocean. Emotional relationships are psychically sensitive and care-taking. Emphasis on domestic routines, food and nurturing, caring for and serving others, staying close to home.

Chandra is the garha-karaka for household life. Promoting the experience of familiar, rhythmic, routines and sheltered security Professor Chandra nearly always maintains some degree of comfort. Yet the outcome depends significantly upon the angle between kathinata-karaka Shani agent of strict lawfulness and social governance versus matri-karaka Chandra agent of local folk customs and cultural norms and ancestral deep roots. However any angle of Chandra may produce heightened feelings of patriotism, self-defense, attachment to parents, love of the land, need for comfortable rhythms and routines, need for security.

Generally, expect an increase in the safety experiences associated with Chandra such as deeper emotional sensitivity, engagement with matters of security and stability, cultural tap-roots, foundational education, patriotism, defense of national-ethnic boundaries and fenced lands, as well as matters of the mother and her folk.

The specific outcome of any Chandra period depends upon the bhava rulerships held by Chandra as measured from both the radical lagna and the Chandra-lagna. Outcomes are also affected by drishti entering Chandra, by the role of Chandra's planetary ruler, and very importantly by the bhava in which Chandra resides. Chandra is so sensitive psycho-emotionally that Chandra bhukti outcomes are also particularly influenced by transits of Rahu-Ketu or transits of Shani.

In Shani-Chandra period, Chandra seeks shelter from sudden changes and insecurity along Shani's path of no-exceptions lawfulness.

  • If Shani and Chandra are well-balanced, the attention to rules and hierarchies imposed by Shani can complement and supplement Chandra's need to have shelter and nurturing.

  • If the Shani-Chandra angle is uncomfortable, expect some tension between the demands of larger social responsibility such as leadership roles versus the need to attend to local security and household affairs. Because dry, dark Shani sees moist, bright Chandra as an enemy shatru-graha, this bhukti may demonstrate the tension between Shani's 19 year agenda of social conformity and achievement versus Chandra's need to focus attention on the family rather than the state.

Shani wants to go Sloooooowly. In fact, Shani would rather not go at all. But if He must go, Professor Shani wants to go as slowly and carefully as possible. Naturally the dynamic, often impulsive muscular kinetics of Professor Mangala are likely to provoke a fearful response in brittle, aging Shani.

Timid Shani is typically on the defensive, fearfully signaling "wait!"as impatient, competitive Mangala charges forward. It is often a stop-start "hurry up and wait" pattern of hesitation, delay, frustration, then a burst of pent-up energy barreling forward in pursuit of the goal.

Like a frightened horse-cart driver trying to rein-in a wild and willful horse, mature, cautious Professor Shani tries to rein-in immature, courageous Mangala. Yet Mangala is much younger and more physically muscular than Shani. Crashes and unwanted impact caused by paralyzing indecision and fearful resistance to forward movement can manifest. Nevertheless Shani rewards common sense, so that sufficient rest, regular exercise and calming breath can go a long way toward normalizing the tension between these two adversarial graha.

For those whose job requires equal amounts of boring doldrums and sudden threat-triggered kinetic muscle action such as emergency responders, police officers, or military personnel, the Shani-Mangala period may provide important down-time for maintaining equipment or organizational governance. If Shani-Mangala hold a fortunate mutual angle such as a parivartamsha or if Mangala occupies swakshetra or uttamsha, the prognosis for uninhibited lawful action is improved. However for most folks there is a feeling of being ready to go but restrained by protocols, systems, and rules.

One may feel harassed by dominating adolescent males, brothers and cousin-brothers, school bullies or impatient, unwise younger males in roles that involve fast action such as military, athletic, or surgical scenarios. Neither the cart-driver nor the horse are permanently harmed, but it will have been a bumpy ride for sure.

LightTunnelTrain.JPG

The previous Shani-Mangala period has been full of tension between the immovable object (Shani) and the irresistible force (Mangala).

Now Shani-Rahu period offers a tension of a different variety: Shani the Lawful meets Rahu the Law-avoiding. No-exceptions Professor Shani must coordinate with Professor Rahu the Expert Exception. Slow-moving dry-and-brittle Shani the Conformist collaborates with slippery, slithery oily lubricated Rahu the non-conformist.

Often a challenging period of life, the Shani-Rahu bhukti expresses a profound tension between one's respect for the rule of law and systems of human social governance versus the also very human desire to do as one wishes without interference from oppressive regulations.

Professor Shani regulates the social order, providing the rule of law wherein every social action has a consequence and the law applies to every member of the society - no exceptions.

Professor Rahu makes His own rules. Rahu finds the cracks, crevices and loopholes in the law which allows Him to travel under the system, around the system, above the system -- but not according to the rules of the system. As a fast-tracking, expedient-minded opportunist, Rahuva is the very definition of exception.

Predictions regarding outcome of Rahu-Shani period and Shani-Rahu period depend considerably on assessing the radical lagna for social-material results and assessing the Chandra-lagna for emotional outcomes.

The combined co-teachers Professor Shani and Professor Rahu can produce a very intensely demanding psycho-spiritual classroom.

  • POTUS-26 National Parks Theodore Roosevelt February 14, 1884 Shani-Rahu period suffered a terrible and catastrophic shock due to randhresha-8 Shani-yuti-Rahu holding a shad-ashtaka 6-8 angles in the same house, Roosevelt's mother died of typhoid fever at 3am and his wife died of kidney failure at 2pm . His young wife Anne had died two days after delivering their first and only child.

Professor Shani structure imposes apparently strict and fierce time-space limits upon Rahu's ambition for recognition and privilege. Shani mahadasha Rahu bhukti usually creates a classroom experience in which Rahu just keeps trying one method after the next to trump the system.

Professor Rahu seeks relentlessly to find an irregularity, a loophole, a trick, a miracle, an exotic, amazing, against-all-odds type of fast-track, short-cut, gasp! stunning upset! unprecedented win! amazing dark-horse triumph!

It's as if the classroom teacher says, "Dear Class, we've been studying the interlocked systems of laws that regulate Earth's physical time-space including the broad accounting laws of karmic rebirth in Earth, since the beginning of the term.

We have completed our study of the interaction between the network of time-space rules and Budha's realm of mental narrative.

Then we studied the interaction between the governing rules of the network and how that structure cooperates with Ketu's cutting winds of desiccation which decompose all outdated structures into particulate matter (dust) so that the dust may later be recomposed into new structures.

Then we examined the cooperative relationship between Shani's austere material rule system and Zukra's realm of balancing mutual agreements between people, things, and ideas that use sense-data channels to bring pleasure of the senses.

Next, class, we saw the challenging and often adversarial interactions between Shani's rules which make no exceptions and apply mercilessly to every component of the systems in contrast with Surya's brilliantly intelligent Divine centrality, charismatic entitlements, specialness, and sparkling mirror-out ego-membrane. Wow, those were some fireworks - and some system-resistance stonewalling too.

Next, we reviewed the calmer engagement between Shani's cold, dry, rigid systems and the push-pull rhythms of Chandra. We saw that while Shani governs at the social-system level, Chandra governs the rituals and routines of daily life. We saw the interaction between the local level of emotional security and comfortable habits, and the influence of parents and parent-figures, with the larger social hierarchies and timelines of Shani.

Finally, we inspected the Shani mahadasha Mangala bhukti: the immovable object (Shani) encounters the irresistible force (Mangala) ! We saw Mangala's dynamic kinetic physical movement energy constantly pushing new life through the system, forcing billions of explosions in the cycle of death (Shani, punitive, time, dryness) and rebirth (Mangala, oppositional-defiant, flesh-movement, blood) and keeping everyone on the edge of their seat as they wonder: is it my time to feel the clash of Titans in a moment of death-and-rebirth?

Now... we are ready to explore the fascinating and often disruptive effects of Rahu under auspice of Shani. As you know, Rahu the agent-provocateur is a notorious rule-avoider, trickster, imposter, and loophole-finder. Rahu has a splendid reputation for getting all the way to His goal via surreptitious means, appearing to beat the odds and triumph in a display of godlike glory ... only to be discovered as an impostor at the last moment... and crashes down from the peak of material privilege.

You may have read the recent case of Bernie Madoff, who provides a textbook example of Shani-Rahu deviously working the system with apparently brilliant success ... until the final moment (Rahu). Although Professor Shani always has the last word in these situations, and Shani also issues frequent caution signals during the bhukti, Professor Rahu's clever slippery style is quite mesmerizing to watch!

For best results, the Witness perspective is advised during Shani-Rahu periods. Indeed, ambition and restriction will generate their polarity drama. It is quite a show! It is like the best Shakespeare dramas which can deliver thrills and excitement every time, even though we know the plot in advance and we've seen the script enacted hundreds of times before!

Yes, we can be confident that in the final moment, Shani's System will prevail. The mahadasha pati prevails in the end. However this is a long bhukti, providing opportunity for much Rahu-ambitious yearning for (unearned) material and social privilege relatively, suffering relatively little pushback from patient Shani, right up until the end (barring empowered curtailing Shani transits). Furthermore, if Rahu is strong via bhava and rashi, and His lord is strong, Rahu may make an excellent showing with flamboyant apparent gleeful beat the system materializations.

Shani-Rahu bhukti is typically a time period that is experienced as challenging and often intensely disruptive (Rahu) period

Most notable stress occurs when Rahu occupies 3-6-8-12 counted from Shani.

  • Puttaparthy 1926-2011 Satya Sai Baba * 1963 (his age 36, during Rahu-return) suffered a stroke and several heart-attacks * Shani-Rahu period * Shani-4 occupies the challenging 6/8 shad-ashtaka angle toward Rahu-11.

Professor Shani naturally seeks recognition and social approval for His sober, realistic and respectable qualities. Shani prefers environments which feature a hierarchical structure, a carefully regulated routine , and a responsible role in society.

Shani +Rahu period introduces Rahu-agents (often institutional government or corporate authority figures) who promise to deliver a dignified lifestyle involving highly visible public leadership duties and systematic economic regulation.

One may indeed indeed self-elevate while in company with the Rahu agent(s).

However toward the end of the Rahu bhukti it may become more obvious that most of the Rahu agent's claims are fear -mirroring mimicry. Rahu is systematic but exotic, irregular or fraudulent.

Extreme examples:

During his 1882-1885 Vimshottari period of Shani-Rahu, POTUS-26 National Parks 1843-1919 Theodore Roosevelt watched many of his worst fears come true. shad-ashtaka 6-8 angle * Rahu in bhava-10 located in 8th-from-Shani conditions of death

  • 14-Feb-1884 presented a terrible and catastrophic shock: on an upper floor, Roosevelt's mother died of typhoid fever at 3am while on a lower floor his young wife Anne was delivering their first and only child. Then, at 2pm in the same house, attended by the same servants, his young wife Anne died of kidney failure.

Typically Shani-Rahu is a challenging combination of influences due to the mutually incompatible agenda of lawful Shani with law-evader Rahu.

Public figure outcomes during Shani-Rahu period include:

  • During his Shani-Rahu period 2007-2010, UK-PM Global Alliance 1953- Tony Blair = Rahu-yuti-Chandra-Makara-5 = quit a long-running political career, and promptly converted from his native Anglican creed to the Roman Catholic catechism. Rahu-Makara-5 shakes up the social status. Rahu + Chandra Vriddhipathi-11 and Chandra also lord of Ketu indicates a desire by Rahu to gain political advantage (Rahu-5) by changing community networks (11).

Marriage

Any Rahu period during any mahadasha may support ceremonial marriage, if a suitable transit of Rahu-Ketu contacting one of the required axes of the nativity.

Rahu-timed marriage show Rahu-the-Mixmaster at work. Rahu-timed marriage suggests an impulsive but goal-oriented alliance. The partner hails from a fascinatingly different set of cultural roots, a different social class or race, or a different religion; these differences facilitate Rahu's over-reaching ascent and are perceived as irresistible and exciting.

Professor Rahu sees a mesmerizing opportunity for expediently reaching His goals, and He acts decisively without delay. There is relatively little time invested in preparation for the ceremony and there may be only partial agreement of the families. So long as the partners continue to each reach their goals through agency of the union, Rahu-timed marriages may endure as long as any other. Longevity of the marriage depends upon the marriage profile elements in both nativities, particularly the 7th-from-Chandra.

  • Purple Rain 1958-2016 Prince * 31-Dec-2001 marriage-2 * Shani-Rahu period * gochara R-K transit via Mithunaya-Dhanushya . The mate was a beautiful petite Canadian-Italian businesswoman. 2nd-from-7th-from-Chandra contains Mangala-Meena suggesting her competitive acumen. Rahu's ruler Zukra-yuti-Ketu.

  • Macedon-King o-Megos 356-323 BCE Alexander-III * in the year 327 BCE (his age 28) married 16-year-old Roxana * Raoxshna, the daughter of a Persian officer. His impulsive decision to marry her contradicted the advice and wishes of virtually everyone in his environment. He had been expected to marry a royal scion of his own dynasty or at least the daughter of someone politically important. Alexander's 7th-from-Chandra-11 indicates a charming and politically intelligent mate, and also children. Raoxshna produced Alexander's only heir.

  • POTUS-pair-06 1775-1852 Louisa Johnson Adams married POTUS-06 American System 1767-1868 John Quincy Adams on 26-July-1797 (her age 22) at All Hallows Barking parish in London. The marriage was fraught with tension, but she survived it and lived to age 77.

  • UK Duchess 1982- Kate of Cambridge married UK-Duke 1982- William of Cambridge during her Shani-Rahu period on 29-Apr-2011. She married a man from a different social class. Gochara Ra-Ke was crossing her R-K Mithunaya-Dhanushya axis.

Maraka empowerment Shani-Rahu period

  • Harmonices Mundi 1571-1630 Johannes Kepler left his body during a financially devastating and war-torn era, Shani-Rahu period (age 59)

  • Secret Doctrine 1831-1891 Theosophy Helena Blavatsky * left her body after a period of intensive and exhausting channeled writing whilst struggling with renal disease Shani-Rahu period (age 59) fleshdeath in London, influenza * Shani-Rahu period * Rahu gives effect of Shani maraka rules-7

  • The iconic figure of Theosophy The Mirror 1895-1986 theosophy Jiddu Krishnamurti * 17-Feb-1986 fleshdeath by liver cancer (age 90) * Shani-Rahu period * Rahu-2 itself a maraka, also produces effect of Rahu's ruler uttama-Shani rules-2

  • Italy-Dictator 1883-1945 Fascist Benito Mussolini was assassinated by rifle bullet on 28-April-1945 along with his mistress at the time and their corpses violently abused (Rahu = corpses). Musssolini's published journals from his final days show that heknew that the end was near and he knew it would be violent due to the people's rage against starvation and bloodshed that his programs had caused. Rahu-Thula occupies bhava-1 providing the predictable great ascent into privilege followed by the disgraced great fall of an exaggerated personality. Shani-Rahu period

  • POTUS-28 The State 1856-1924 Woodrow Wilson left his body during Shani-Rahu period after an exhausting health struggle (age 67). Rahu-Meena gives effect of maraka rules-7 Guru.

  • Pakistan-PM 1953-2007 Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by bullets to the head, shot from camouflaged (Rahu) enemies lurking in the crowd surrounding her elections-campaign vehicle. 27-Dec-2007 fleshdeath * murdered at 6:16 PM in Rawalpindi, Pakistan (Age 54)

Effects related to bhava rulership or karaka signification

Rahu bhukti may also signify the decease of family members providing that other indicators confirm:

  • German Bundeskanzlerin 2005- Angela Merkel 02-Sept-2011 decease of her father, Horst Kasner (Kazmierczak) a Lutheran minister * Shani-Rahu period * Rahu resides in 7th-from-9th

  • Purple Rain 1958-2016 Prince * 25-Aug-2001 decease of Father * (Prince age 43)* Shani-Rahu period * Rahu resides in 7th-from-9

  • Purple Rain 1958-2016 Prince * 15-Feb-2002 decease of Mother (Prince age 43)* Shani-Rahu period

quotation from B.V. Raman, Autobiography of a Vedic Astrologer , p. 99-100:

"It has been my experience over nearly sixty years that Rahu as sub-lord, whether in his own period or in the period of other planets, would always create problems of a serious nature, affecting family and personal matters, which would Test the mental and physical stamina of an individual whatever be his social, educational, or financial attainments.

  • It is also found, contrary to general belief, that planets like the Sun and Mercury, occupying Rahu's constellations are capable of conferring happy results financially and career-wise but would create situations in domestic life, which could shatter a person's self-confidence and make him experience results which he would ordinarily never expect to happen.

There are of course exceptions which I will discuss in due course..."

The Final Bhukti brings end-of-cycle, conclusion, closure.

chid * cut

Shani Mahadasha + Guru bhukti

What to expect during a Guru bhukti?

Evaluate the placements of Guru.

Consider the rashi + bhava owned and occupied + the angle from the mahadasha-pathi to the bhukti-pati + incoming-outgoing graha-drishti + current gochara transits + age of the native.

Has the bhuktipathi matured?

Are the mahadashapathi and the bhuktipathi mutually friendly?

Chidra-dasha * Final Bhukti of the 19-year Shani Mahadasha

The final bhukti requires return of unusable energies, cutting-off, severance, release, forgiveness

Finally a reprieve from the relentless discipline and restriction of Shani Lord of Limitations. After nearly 16 years of austerity, Shani's regime is nearly at an end. Now Professor Guru opens the doors of opportunity, creating a vast territory in which Professor Shani may instruct upon the architectural integrity of universal systems. The observant student will notice that one has gained a sober if somewhat bitterly acquired senior level of authority in the workings of the laws of life.

The student undoubtedly knows, by now, the hard truths of third dimensional reality. Hundreds of demonstrations of the laws of karma have been presented over the course of the previous one-and-a-half decades. Aging has occurred. Hope for change has dwindled so low that finally one has entered a state of neutrality, simply accepting the order of law as an immutable fact of existence.

At this point, Shani's job is effectively finished. Professor Guru will now lead the class in a review of the data. Students are encouraged to see how this data fits into Professor Brihaspati's theory of Oneness. Suddenly, after years of lacking permission to waste time on frivolities such as philosophy and faith, Professor Guru grants exactly that permission to reflect and admire the handiwork of the Divine creator of Shani's massive unforgiving systems.

And, surprise! The final bhukti of merciless "no exceptions " lawful Shani is deeply forgiving. It is a time of release and restoration, wisdom and wellness. The Divine reappears. In the final assessment, in the summary chidra-bhukti, one may be blessed to realize that although the darkness of Shani Mahadasha often blockage the light of the sun, indeed the guiding wisdom of the Divine has been present above those heavy clouds, all along.

Typically, the Guru-ruled chidra-dasha of Shani Mahadasha is restorative however there are two exceptions. Guru is a less benevolent influence for Karkata radical lagna and also for Thula radical lagna. For Karkata and for Thula, the Shani-Guru bhukti is certainly an improvement over the previous bhukti conditions. Yet depending in detail upon the precise roles of Shani and other graha in the nativity, the psycho-physical response to the previous long years of stress and deprivation has the potential to express as physical ailment or social conflict (often both) due to Guru's role as the roga-pathi.

Guru periods are often uniquely challenging for Thula nativities due to Guru's role as bhratrupathi-3 mental health and rogesha-6 physical health. Note also Guru's bhava relative to the Chandra lagna. Should for Thula-Chandra and Karkata-Chandra, the same sensitivity to injustice and imbalance-seeking-a-remedy may produce inequity and insufficiency during the otherwise generous and wise periods of Brihaspati.

Professor Shani and Professor Guru are mutually neutral, and Professor Guru is a natural benevolent.

Therefore the overall prediction is that things do not get noticeably more difficult nor is the workload increased, but rather there is a modest continuation of business as usual.

The Final Bhukti of any mahadasha is designed to serve as a time of closure , completion, consolidation , and cutting the losses. Projects or responsibilities which have not been completed due to unsupported conditions can be released from the task list.

In general, one will start to feel that life is becoming a bit easier, although there is still plenty of work on the schedule.

In the best outcome, discipline needed to be able to accomplish work on the material plane has been completely internalized, so that the same amount of production (or more) can be accomplished without the feeling of burdensomeness.

Hard work feels "natural" at this point, 17 years into a 19 year mahadasha. One accepts the normalcy of responsibility from an optimistic and inclusive perspective.

Children

Guru bhukti of any mahadasha are naturally fertile periods which tend to produce children on the basis of Brihaspati's role as a natural putra-putriki karaka without regard to bhava rulerships or other rules. Even an otherwise child-resistant nativity may produce children during Guru Bhukti, so long as samchara Rahu-Ketu are transiting a key lagna.

  • The first child of Bello Gallico 101-44 BCE Julius Caesar was born in the year 82 BCE, when Caesar was aged-19.

  • Gospel of Wealth 1835-1919 Andrew Carnegie * first and only child born 30-Mar-1897(Andra's age 61)* Shani-Guru period

Higher Education and Theoretical or Doctrinal Awards

Naturally Guru's bhava determines the manifestation of this bhukti. Overall, Guru periods signify the arrival of a significant teacher-preacher figure within wise, sacred locations. The locations are often determined by the residential bhava of Guru. For example Guru-12 location would be meditative or imaginative or distant world, whereas Guru-9 would be a classic university setting but Guru-4 would be a local settlement and Guru-3 likely a commercial business.

The emphasis is on wisdom and expansion. Periods of Brihaspati the university-karaka are likely times to complete a tertiary diploma following many (Guru) years of study, particularly if Guru is otherwise associated by rashi or by bhava, and particularly if the native intends to use their knowledge in order to teach.

Special considerations for Rank-and-Status Raise during the chidra-dasha

The closure-and-completion signification of the chidra-dasha does not alter the benefits of public honors bestowed during the chidra-dasha. Yet the promotion in rank that may be obtained during this final bhukti may signify the end of a period of respected accomplishments rather than the beginning of a new era of public responsibilities.

Typically the titles bestowed during a chidra-dasha social promotion are honorific and summative in nature rather than formative toward the next phase career development. Nevertheless if Professor Budha is materially strong , the entitlement or authority received even at this time of forgiveness and conclusion may carry forward into the subsequent Mahadasha of Budha.

Marriage

Any Guru period during any mahadasha may support ceremonial marriage, if Brihaspati rules either the navamsha-1 or the navamsha-7 AND there occurs a suitable transit of Rahu-Ketu to one of the required axes of the nativity. Especially indicates a fertile mate, a philosopher, a patron, a preacher or a priest, one well suited to the role of father.

  • Christian Science 1821-1910 Mary Baker Eddy * in 1877, spoke the vows of her third lifepartnership at her age 56 during her Shani-Guru period AND Shani 2nd-return AND 3rd Rahu-return. Brihaspati rules 7th-navamsha.

Maraka Agency for Professor Brihaspati * Exit Opening for fleshdeath permission

When Guru rules bhava-2 or bhava-7, Brihaspati becomes a potential marana-karaka who gives teachings upon the subject of saturation (2) and balanced completion of the contract (7).

If the timing is matched properly, the final bhukti * Chidra-dasha of Shani mahadasha is a powerful impetus for exit from this earthly vale. Often, a tremendous amount of socially responsible work has been accomplished and the exhausted native is more than ready to "call it quits".

Measured from Mithunaya lagna or from Kanya lagna, Brihaspati obtains maraka empowerment as ruler of jaya-bhava-7.

  • UK-PM Finest Hour 1874-1965 Winston Churchill * Mrigasirasa-Mithunaya lagna. 24-Jan-1965 fleshdeath (age 90) * Shani-Guru period * Guru yuvatipathi-7 (also, Shani-8 grants extraordinary longevity)

Measured from Vrizchika lagna or from Kumbha lagna, Brihaspati obtains maraka empowerment as ruler of dhana-bhava-2.
