Certain apocryphal texts were also used to support an expectation that the world would end in precisely 1914, accompanied by famines, earthquakes, fires, flood, epidemic disease, et-cetera. The Supreme Deity would then sort all of humanity into one group going to heaven forever, and the other group condemned permanently to burn in hell.
For twenty years, from 1895 until 1915 - DDE age 5 until age 25 -- DDE's family home was an epicenter of prayer, study, and fervent preparation for the Final Judgment.
In 1914, although there was a horrible war in northwest Europe and widespread starvation, the world [consensus reality] mainly proceeded as usual.
Religious leaders of the cult attempted to spin the false prophecies as simple miscalculation. They issued new doomsday dates, and most of the faithful simply adjusted their calendars. However, Dad could not tolerate the gap between faith and logic [Surya-Kanya]. After 20 years of intensive dedication to the doctrine, Dad suddenly, explosively quit the congregation in 1915.
