  • Shil-Ponde. (1939). Hindu Astrology Joytisha-Shastra . p 97.

BPL commentary: For Vishaja natives, the condition of Guru considerably affects the outcome

"... delicate features and a soft pleasing voice.

  • But do not let these deceive you.

Underneath she has a strong character , even hard at times.

  • She will always follow her own inclinations

  • and is not amenable to advice from others.

She will be distinctly appealing to the opposite sex

  • and will make a very fortunate marriage.

Her husband will be well-to-do if not wealthy

  • and she will have few if any children, not more than two.

She will be fond of travel and change

  • and will travel much with her husband .

Her favorite color is red or crimson.

She has beautifully shaped legs."

Which features indicate writing, particularly writing on Jyotisha and divination topics? (1) the proliferation of Mithuna Karakamsha throughout the varga

(2) Guru's control of numerous lagna especially His strong relationship to the 3rd amsha Dhanushya (writing, reports)

(3) parivartamsha yoga between atmakaraka Mangala and yogakaraka Shani

role of uttama-Budha Certainly the dharmapathi uttama-Budha in 12 is a supportive placement for an analyst and categorizer of invisible things. In bhava-12, Budha specializes in argumentation and descriptive explanation re: matters of vyayabhava such as embedded subconscious expectations, meditative and concentrative states of awareness, and imagery of the dreamlike astral plane.
role of Atmakaraka = Mangala (innovation, pursuit, competition, pioneering) in Kumbha (systems) Atmakaraka Mangala rises in the Punarvasu-Mithunaya navamsha lagna with Surya, suggesting a dynamic (Kuja) and confident (Surya) push-forward of communications about the philosophical view of life in the garden (earth).
role of Karakamsha Mithunaya throughout the Varga Because atmakaraka Kuja occupies Mithunaya navamsha, the karakamsha in every varga becomes communicative, narrative, conversational, bantering Mithunaya. Mithunaya karakamsha is occupied by graha in all but three of the Parashari varga. So, I am a writer and a talker.
10th shastiamsha confirmation of career Budha occupies karakamsha Mithunaya in the 10th shastyamsha, which ultimately confirms that much of the life force energy will be directed into public (10) activities of instructor, signaler, writer, publisher, or media-messenger. I

Eldest of five children so the explainer-instructor role started early!

lagnesha Lagnesha Zukra occupies Karakamsha Mithunaya in Guru-ruled Punarvasu within the radical dharmabhava. Naturally, instructor roles arise in universities and global (9) corporations. Yet with dharmapathi uttama-Budha residing in Guru's other bhava-12, the stronger signal prefers explication of the astral (12) ideally working from a private, if not completely invisible, sanctuary base (12).
Guru's broad reach re: writing, including lagnesha, atmakaraka, and bhava-3 In addition, writing behavior can be seen via bhava-3 which is owned and aspected by expansive, inclusive, optimistic Guru-11-Simha.

In D-1, Guru rules Punarvasu containing the lagnesha Zukra whilst Punarvasu is also navamasha-1 lagna.

Guru rules the Atmakaraka purvabhadra Kuja in D-1 while the navamsha Punarvasu lagna contains Kuja.

Guru rules Vishaka radical lagna, encouraging the Vishaka shakti-shock in the media-messaging behaviors.

Guru rules the career-profile 10th navamsha Meena * astral plane, dream-states, spiritual guidance * and Guru also occupies the third navamsha = writing.

parivartamsha yoga Kuja-5 +Shani-2 In the D-1, Atmakaraka Mangala occupies purvabhadra-Kumbha-5 signifying intelligence (5) for rule-governed, associative and distributive systems (Kumbha, economies, networks).

Kuja enjoys parivartamsha yoga * exchange of rashi * with Shani-Rahu-Vrizchika (Anuradha) in bhava2. This Mangala-Shani-Rahu complex controls the treasury of languages and history that is stored in dhanasthana.

The 2-5 exchange activates the relationship between the intelligence for networks (Kumbha) of games (5) and the access to treasuries (2) of valuable knowledge (which due to Vrizchika is somewhat secret in nature).

Jyotisha is a game at the system level because of the free-will rule here in the Earth-bubble, but Jyotisha outcomes are nevertheless heavily weighted (Shani) toward historical precedence (2) patterns that are passed down the generations via speech, song, stories, and family history (2). Rahu of course gives the desire to penetrate the secret stash (Vrischika-2).

3rd-from-Budha 3rd-from-Budha indicates repetitive mentality. Vrizchika containing Anuradhu-Rahu yuti Anuradha-Shani = structure (Shani) or secret, exotic knowledge (Rahu-2).

Budha is a Counter and a Measurer.

Uttama-Budha-12 is counting and measuring not only material patterns via Shani in 3rd-from-Budha but also Budha is counting and measuring astral patterns.

vyaapa -lagna

  • 12th from lagnesha

  • "visiting foreign lands "

Ruler of the 12th from lagnesha Zukra = Zukra. During Zukra Mahadasha, extensive international travels to remote cultures and locations.

Also during vyaapa effects occurred Ketu mahadasha, because Ketu gives the effect of Zukra and Ketu occupies the vyapa lagna, extensive global travels.

300 Combinations 1912-1998 Jyotishi BV Raman
  • 92. Damini Yoga (same as Dama Yoga)
  • all seven graha distributed across seven rashi

"Results = The person will be highly charitable, always helping others and a protector of cattle."

chalakaraka Rahu in bhava 2 =

  • ambitious desire to receive the privileges accorded to the holders of treasuries of financial well-being and historical knowledge; to the masters of language; to the speakers and singers; to the collectors of the highest lineage values

chidrakaraka Ketu in bhava 8 =

  • scattered apathy toward inheritances, Ambivalence toward occult knowledge, discovery of hidden resources - yet unrestricted access to secret treasures

Arudha of Karma Bhava = "Karmaa Pada" Sahaja bhava

= public imagery or associations = unoccupied, lord = Guru the teacher = publications, administration, planning, scheduling, assignments.

  • Public glamour is minimal. Karma pada = bhava-3 = is empty. Lord of Karma Pada = L-3+rogesha-6 Guru, an inauspicious graha associated with servitude, relationship problems, outcasts and foreigners, and the daily grind of business administration.

  • the public illusion - Arudha = Karma Pada = promotes attributes of teaching (Guru) and publications (3).

  • Professor Guru receives drishti of all three malefics (Mangala, Shani, yuti Rahu by association) therefore Guru suffers a reduced scope of action.

  • Guru's association with the powerfully independent and regal Vriddhipathi-11 Surya (which also unfortunately gets the restrictive drishti of the papa-graha) contributes a small aura of independent authority.

  • Karma Pada = Vrizchika bhava-2 is rather difficult and exotic, consisting of the treasury-house which stores valuable goods and knowledge occupied by a Rahu-Shani pair in parivartamsha with the bhava-pati Mangala. This house will eventually yield a strange and powerful profession and reputation for some variety of exotic knowledge of history and languages; however there will be many torturous twists and turns due to the interaction of the three empowered papa-graha all concentrated upon one bhava. Luckily this bhava measures 9th-from-Chandra. Shani permits a final success only after endurance, only after maturity hard-won, and only after years of disciplined and unrewarded study.

Karma bhava

Lord of karma bhava = Chandra

Chandra occupies 9th-from-karma bhava

9th-from-Chandra = bhava-2 Vrizchika = arudha of karma bhava

The public impression of this native's dignity via reputation = the complex situation in radix bhava-2

in radix bhava-2 mark Yogakaraka L-4+vidyapathi-5 Shani-yuti-Rahu , in parivartamsha with Shani's enemy Kuja, in the 2nd domain of speech and transmission of stored values

the native is a mouthpiece for an ancient, healing, tantrik knowledge tradition

The public perceives the legitimacy of the transmission but the public might not accept or embrace the information itself, due to the foreign Rahu content and the general malefic associations of Shani and Kuja.

Overall, despite the dicey nature of the job, the auspice for respect arising from transmission of traditional values along with the healing capacity of Vrischika, is favorable for public reputation.

300 Combinations 1912-1998 Jyotishi BV Raman comments

  • Three Hundred Important Combinations

  • 186. Satkathadisravana Yoga

Definition = The 3rd house should be a benefic sign aspected by benefic planets and the 3rd lord should join a benefic amsa.

Results.= the native will always be interested in reading high-class literature and in listening to religious discourses.

Remarks. - Irrespective of the fact whether or not the 3rd house is a benefic sign, the 3rd lord should have the aspect of one of the natural benefics.

Drishti upon karmesha-10 Chandra

  • drishti upon karmesha-10 Chandra from uttama dharmesha-9 +ruler-of-12 Budha in 12 (wise analysis of psychic-material bridge-ways)

  • drishti upon karmesha-10 Chandra from Rahu in 2 (foreign cultural knowledge, mystical or tantrik knowledge-base from Vrischika; scholarly qualities from the L-4+vidyapathi-5 Yogakaraka Shani)

  • drishti upon 10th-from-Chandra = karma pada = Sahaja bhava = L-3+rogesha-6 Guru, handicapped by malefic drishti. Auspice for public recognition of a teacher, but on a much reduced level of public apprehension or "fame".

Why vocation = Teacher?

  1. Ruler of the 10th navamsha = Vargottamsha Guru * teacher-preacher

  2. Zukra lagnesha in 4th from Chandra = parent + schoolteacher

  3. Zukra occupies 9 = socially identified with university discourse on philosophy and theory

  4. Guru-11 economic systems = income + Vriddhipathi-11 Surya

  5. karmesha-10 from Chandra = Dhanushya ruled by Guru = sahaja bhava = skills + crafts = messaging + skills trainings. Native is a teacher of grammar and rhetoric.

  6. method of earnings = Vriddhipathi-11 from Chandra = bandhu bhava = school-teaching, cultural education

Guru = lord of karmesha-10 Chandra

Guru + Vriddhipathi-11 swakshetra Surya,

  • receiving drishti of L-4+vidyapathi-5 Shani (education, authorship)

  • receiving drishti of L-2+ yuvatipathi-7 counseling Mangala (speech and values; advising and contractual relationships)

  • Teaching profession practiced in mahadasha of Zukra, Surya and Chandra

Guru drishti to:

bhava-3 = communications, teamwork, planning, meetings, publications

Professor Guru owns and operates the kramabhava-3. Bhava-3 represents step-wise process, going, proceeding, following a regular course, going gradually, by degrees

bhava-3 = a teaching and skills training location concerned with conversations and transmissions of immediate knowledge in the form of information.

bhava-5 = intelligence, authorship, performance arts, theatre

bhava-7 = partnerships, contracts, exchanges, advising relationships

~~ BPHS - Ch. 24, shloka 9

"If Lagna's Lord is in Dharma Bhava,

the native will be fortunate,

dear to people,

be a devotee of Shri Vishnu,

be skillful, eloquent in speech,

and be endowed with wife, sons, and wealth."

  • 33: 36-40.
"Zukra in the fifth from Karakamsha

will make one a poet and an eloquent speaker."

Quick assessment of strength of House Lords:

L-2+yuvatipathi-7 Mangala - L-2+dharmesha-9 from Chandra-Meena

from Chandra lagna, Kuja = L-2 [knowledge hoards, languages, speech ] and dharmesha-9 [wisdom teachings, priesthood] .

from radix lagna, Kuja = L-2 [knowledge hoards, languages, speech ] and yuvatipathi-7 [partnerships, contracts, advising relationships, agreements]

In navamsha, Kuja = rogesha-6 [Arguments , illness] and Vriddhipathi-11 [networks, gains]

Kuja receives drishti of the career-lord = ruler of the 10th navamsha = Guru

Parivartamsha Yoga : L-2 + yuvatipathi-7 Kuja + Yogakaraka L-4+vidyapathi-5 Shani [L-2+dharmesha-9 from Chandra + L-11+ruler-of-12 from Chandra]

Kuja enjoys Parivartamsha Yoga with YogakarakaL-4+vidyapathi-5 Shani = indoctrination-education, creative intelligence

from Chandra, the parivartamsha exchanges Kuja's dynamic knowledge-production skills with Shani's responsibilities = L-11+ruler-of-12 = achievements, earnings, international duties , tasks in foreign lands

~~ B. V. Raman. (1992, 4th ed.). A Catechism of Astrology . p. 28.:

"Qu. 34: When Saturn falls in Mars' Sapta Vargas, and Mars in Saturn's Sapta Vargas, do they become strong?

Ans: You cannot lay down any hard and fast rules in judging the strength or otherwise of planets when there is an exchange of vargas between two natural malefics."

  • If it is a case of Parivarthana Yoga (interchange of places), this considerably strengthens it.

  • In cases other than a parivarthana, due weight must be given to their lordship and similar factors.

  • When Mars is a Yogakaraka and Saturn happens to be in Mars' vargas, then Saturn is automatically rendered strong.

  • As to whether such strength expresses itself in good or bad respects depends on the horoscopic disposition of Saturn though by virtue of Saturn's inherent malefic nature, a measure of evil is bound to predominate."

Parivartamsha yoga of L-2 + yuvatipathi-7 Kuja + L-4 + vidyapathi-5 Shani-yuti-Rahu

Parivartamsha amplifies the total power of the three most virulent natural challenger papagraha, by exchanging their energy, so that every graha in the nativity receives malefic influence

  • In addition to receiving malefic drishti, Surya-yuti-Guru Occupy 6th-from-Chandra. while Surya = rogesha-6 from Chandra.

  • Periods L-3+rogesha-6 Guru (two malefic drishti) and periods of Vriddhipathi-11 Ravi (two malefic drishti) may be especially difficult on the mental, emotional and material planes. periods of Ketu (three malefic drishti to bhava-8) may be critically difficult on the material plane.

Shani = Yogakaraka for Thula lagna .

  • Shani's drishti to Ketu, Surya, and Guru carries the educational and genius energy of the L-4+L-5, as well as the energy of the L-11+ruler-of-12 from Chandra

Atmakaraka Kuja = rules 2nd-from-Chandra and L-2 from radix lagna. Also dharmesha-9 from Chandra.

  • Kuja's drishti to Ketu, Surya, Guru, and Budha carries the historical - linguistic knowledge of"double L-2" Kuja, as well as the religious knowledge of dharmesha-9 from Chandra.

  • Due to Rahu's involvement in the parivartamsha, Rahu amplifies all the upside and all the downside of both Shani and Kuja.

Timing of effects:

Kuja's influence is very widespread in this nativity.

  • Atmakaraka Kuja gives strong fruits from Kuja's core character not only during Mangala Mahadasha.

  • Also Mangala's effects will be strong in the periods of graha which occupy a navamsha of Kuja (Chandra, Zukra, and Ketu).

  • Also, Mangala periods evoke the characteristics of the graha which are engaged in parivartamsha with Kuja: Shani and Rahu.

Public Reputation (10)

The public dignity, social recognition, visibility, or fame may be large or small, strong or weak, but each individual will have some manifestation of a public image which is bright enough to get a "second look" , "respect".

Atmakaraka L-2 Kuja occupies Kumbha = Arudha lagna - unique soul, features *research* into large-scale energy networks

Public image = 10th-from- Arudha lagna = Vrizchika = radix bhava-2 = "storage" Skandha= wealth, family, stored knowledge, lineage

Shani-yuti-Rahuin bhava-2 = foreignness, taboo, social structure; Shani = YogakarakaL-4+vidyapathi-5 for intelligence and education, Shani = traditional knowledge

native is known as exponent of

  • foreign divination systems (Rahu-Vrischika)

  • in global philosophical and case-study format research context (Kumbha,"science")

  • psychic best practice in educational settings (Rahu/Shani = L-4+L-5),

  • case-study or data-centric approach (Shani)

  • to tantrik, psychiatric or psycho-tantric materials (Vrischikha)

  • international adviser in both university setting and independent consulting practice

~~ Mantreswara's Phaladeepika- Chapter 5, Shloka

"In any nativity, if The lord of the 10th house is situated in Mars' Navamsha ,

the person shall earn a living through metals,

serving for fighting, battles, cooking, lands, gold,

causing troubles to others, weapons, adventure,

association with wicked men, spying, or through theft."

In this nativity, professional Jyotishi practice may be framed as a form of psychic observation which could be characterized as espionage, a skill of vyaya bhava.

  • Signification for the psychiatric or forensic dimension of the work is especially strong re: the invasive psychological and journalistic character of navamsha nichha Chandra.

The physical associations of Kuja are reduced in this nativity. Kuja's theoretical-conceptual nature in radix Kumbha, and Mangala's advanced mentalization in Mithunaya navamsha, takes Kuja away from the earthiest fleshly realm (where He is happiest) and transports His competitive, even warlike energies into the airy domains of large-network (Kumbha) and conversation-transaction (Mithuna).

Ancestors * Counting exercise At the 'turn of the century' in the early 1900's the father of the mother's mother experienced financial problems and committed suicide by hanging.

Mother's mother = count 4 backwards from Chandra = bhava-3 Dhanushya

maternal grandmother's father = count backwards 9 from Dhanushya = Vrishabha-8 containing Ketu

Ketu the chidrakaraka = neck-breaking and other mentally-scattered events of decapitation, dismemberment and surrender.

Conditions of death of the mother's mother's father = count 8 backwards from Vrishabha-8 = Thula"the yoke". When the living head is yoked by rope to a fixed object and the agent makes a sudden separation (Ketu) from their platform of support, the yoke holds the head against gravity and the neck is broken, causing death.

Nakshatra directives for happiness and satisfaction:

Radix lagna = Bisaja = tendency toward shocking, splitting revelations .

Psychological work with trauma and healing, medical diagnosis, counseling professions, investigative journalism, divination, intuitive and clairvoyant work, and scientific research are all suitable. But do not expect consistent output or steady routine, at least until the end of life.

  • Navamsha lagna swamsha = Punarvasu = soul's desire to feel fertility, development, growing things from the Earth Energy. Motherhood, gardening, and caring for family or students should spiritually inform this native's career plan.

  • Radix Chandra-Uttarabhadrapada, pursuing destiny to feel Established in Earth's Aura and grounded in the cosmos. the native requires protection from overcrowding (physical and psychic) and engulfment. Career path should provide a sanctuary workspace, opportunity to build a reputation, and avenues of expression for their famous "reading and writing" skills. Literary authorship, publications .

  • Navamsha Chandra-Anuradha. One intuitively seeks out companions with the qualities of friendliness. These are alliance-makers and negotiators, often found in diplomatic, brokering, counseling/advising, and legal environments.

Degree on the Navamsha Lagna = 29 Mithuna (Gemini) = spiritual constitution, service to others

According to M.C. Jain in The Stars and your Future (p 42), 29 Mithuna = the Degree of Seership :

Symbol: A university professor lecturing to his students

"Denotes one of simplicity of character gifted with magnetic fire

  • and knowledge of the power of invisible forces .

Against him aggression will avail nothing,

  • and the aggressor will find that he is conquered.

This degree provides an aptitude for studying human nature ."

Planetary Yogas: from B.V. Raman, Three Hundred Important Combinations

"3. Anapha Yoga

  • "Definition: If there are planets in the 12th from the Moon, Anapha Yoga is formed. [Kumbha Kuja]

  • Results and Well-formed organs, majestic appearance, good reputation, polite, generous, self-respect, fond of dress and sense pleasures. In the later life, renunciation and austerity."

7. Adhi Yoga(partial)

[Guru in 6th-from-Chandra;

Budha in 7th-from-Chandra ]

  • Definition: If benefics are situated in the 6th, 7th and 8th from the Moon , the combination goes under the name of Adhi Yoga.

  • Results: The person will be polite and trustworthy, will have an enjoyable and happy life, surrounded by luxuries and affluence, will inflict defeats on his enemies, will be healthy and will live long.

  • Remarks: ... All these benefics [Zukra, Guru, Budha] may be in the 6th, 7th or 8th or in two houses or all of them may be in any one of these houses.

23 Bhadra Yoga [uttama-Budha in 7th-from-Chandra, in kendra from the Moon]

  • Definition: Bhadra Yoga is caused by the disposition of Mercury in a Kendra which should be identical with his own or exaltation sign.

  • Results: The person born in Bhadra Yoga will be strong, will have A lion-like face, well-developed chest, well-proportioned limbs, will be taciturn, will help relatives and will live up to a good old age.

18 Obhayachari Yoga [uttama-Budha in 2nd-from-Surya]

  • Definition: If planets other than the Moon are present on either side of the Sun, Obhayachari is caused.

  • Results. -The person will be an eloquent speaker. Will have well-proportioned limbs, will take delight in everything, will be liked by all, wealthy and famous.

12 Sakata Yoga

  • Definition: The Moon in the 12th, 6th or 8th from Jupiter gives rise to Sakata Yoga.

  • Results: the native loses fortune and may regain it . He will be Ordinary and insignificant. He will suffer from poverty, privation and misery. He will be stubborn and hated by relatives. [Raman says that

"Sakatayogajatasya Yogobhangam Pade-pade"is more the rule with this yoga - the person loses his fortune"

Pade-pade" -- now and again. It is not a combination for lifelong poverty.]

16. Subha-Vesi Yoga - [uttama-Budha in 2nd-from-Ravi]

  • Definition: If planets other than the Moon occupy the 2nd from the Sun , Vesi Yoga is formed.

  • Results: The person will be fortunate, happy, virtuous, famous and aristocratic.

29. Bharathi Yoga[uttama dharmesha-9 +ruler-of-12 Budha = lord of navamsha of Vriddhipathi-11 Surya+ L-2 Kuja, and Kuja = parivartamsha exchange with the vidyapathi-5 Shani]

  • Definition: The lord of Navamsha occupied by the lord of the 2nd, 5th, and 11th is exalted and in conjunction with the 9th lord

  • .Results: World famous, a reputed scholar, fond of music, romantic, handsome, attractive, religiously inclined and bewitching eyes.

  • Remarks: Three Yogas are given rise to inasmuch as the 9th lord cannot be in simultaneous conjunction with all the three Navamsa lords. Therefore Bharathi Yoga may be said to exist (a) if the lord of Navamsha occupied by the 2nd lord is exalted and in conjunction with the 9th lord, (b) if the lord of the Navamsa occupied by the 5th lord is exalted and combines with the 9th lord, and (c) if the lord of the Navamsha occupied by the 11th lord is exalted and combines with the 9th lord,. Bharathi Yoga is not quite a common combination.

44. Sankha Yoga [vidyapathi-5 Shani in 4/10-from-rogesha-6 Guru; Zukra is moderately powerful in Shad Bala]

  • Definition and The lords of the 5th and 6th should be in mutual Kendras and the Lord of Lagna must be powerful.

  • Results: Fond of pleasures, humanitarian, blessed with wife, children and lands, righteously inclined, doing good deeds, learned in sciences, and living up to a good old age.

"Definition. If the lord of the 10th is situated in the 6th, 8th or 12th, Duryoga is caused.

Results: The person will not derive the fruits of his own bodily exertion; he will be looked down by others; highly selfish and always intent upon deceiving others, he will live in a foreign place.

Remarks: The 10th is the pivot of the horoscope and its lord should be strong if one's life is to be tolerably happy. When the 10th lord is in dushthamshas he will lose his vitality and is therefore said to confer on the native just those qualities which render him insignificant in the eyes of the public . Harming others, selfishness and gluttony are not qualities conducive to making one virtuous.

One who has Dur-yoga is supposed not to derive the benefits of his own bodily exertions. Duryoga seems to indicate that one would earn his livelihood by manual labour.

of the three Dusthamsha, the 12th seems to be the least malefic so far as this Yoga is concerned, because whilst depriving one of the fruits of his labours, it will at least give him noble qualities and therefore a certain amount of respect in society."

Sakata Bepin Behari and Madhuri Behari, Introduction to Esoteric Astrology . (1986, second ed.) Sagar Pub. New Delhi. p. 225

disambiguation:" Sakata yoga" not to be confused with"Sat-kalatra" yoga which gives a noble and virtuous (sat) spouse (kalatra)

"Sakata Yoga is one of the dreaded yogas formed by the sixth-eighth relationship between the Moon and Jupiter , especially if none of them is in a kendra position.

As a result of [Sakata] yoga, the native

  • loses fortune but may regain it ,

  • he will be ordinary and insignificant .

  • He will suffer from poverty, privation and misery .

  • He will be stubborn and hated by relatives."

Attributes of career-karaka Surya:

Owns and occupies gainful radix Vriddhipathi-11 = community, assemblies, marketplace, networks

  • Ravi = centrality and individuality

  • Ravi receives auspicious drishti from friendly Kuja, and hostile drishti from Ravi's eneth e Shani

  • in dazamamza-10 , Surya = L-2; in navamsha, Surya = L-3

  • Occupies navamsha lagna, but nichha in 4th dazamamza-10

Kuja and Budha as Career Directors:
  • Kuja dominates the personality-components, along with lieu-tenant Budha

  • Kuja controls about a third of the career lagnas.

  • Kuja enjoys parivartamsha yoga with Yogakaraka L-4+vidyapathi-5 Shani, And Kuja receives drishti of Surya/Guru from gainful bhava-11.

  • The parivartamsha yoga is certainly helpful, but the core character of Kujaremains quite eccentric and philosophical in Kumbha rashi.

  • Considering also the uttama-Budha in the occult bhava-12 which is tasked to articulate a meditative and imaginative path, the native may have trouble retaining mainstream employment.

  • This person's sincere intellectual interests are outside the conventional realm of scholarly and scientific inquiry.

  • uttama-Budha owns five key graha or Lagna in the D-1/D-9

  • uttama-Budha receive drishti from the dominant career lord, Kuja.

  • Prognosis:

The radix characteristics of Kuja and Budha - - broadly characterized as "eccentric creativity, occult studies, and research writing" -- will to a large extent determine this native's career.

Attributes of Kuja:

The physical associations of Kuja are reduced.

Competitive, warrior Kuja must negotiate the abstract terrain of Kumbha's theoretical-conceptual networks.

In addition, Mangala experiences advanced Budha-ruled mentalization in Mithunaya navamsha, and direct-action Kuja is not comfortable generally within the hyper-mentalized environments produced by His enemy Budha.

The arid, physically disengaged environments of Kumbha and Mithuna remove Kuja from the fleshly animal realm

Mithuna-Kumbha channel Mangala's hunting, pursuing behaviors into the airy domains of conversation-transaction (Mithuna) and large-network systems (Kumbha)

Therefore all direct-action effects of Kuja, including the influence He wields as the navamsha lord of Chandra radix-10, are weakened through mentalization and scientific abstraction.

Further weakening due to very late degree in the rashi, = 29:6 of Kumbha. Mangala = purvabhadrapada Nakshatra. (pada-3)

Das commentary, "Your outward expression is mischievous but not inwardly. In other words, you think one thing but do another. You are bold, courageous and inclined to do research and finally attain name, fame and reputation."

radix L-2+ yuvatipathi-7 (double maraka)

lord of dazamamza-10

lord of navamsha or both: radix karmesha-10 Chandra and radix lagnesha-1 Zukra

karaka for competition, conflict, exploration and hunting

Occupies radix bhava-5 (intelligence, creativity, speculation)

Kuja's attributes in the rashi of Kumbha include:

  • vigorously active philosophical conceptualizing ,

  • frustration of physical movement (Kuja is uncomfortably restrained and slowed in Shani's rashi)

  • The hunting/exploring/competitive instincts are directed into the world of abstract thought,

  • stretching and pushing of accepted boundaries and protocols

  • challenging common assumptions or rules of procedure,

  • quest for the conceptually innovative, seeking new paths,

  • scientific research orientation,

  • Activity in electro-magnetic device networks,

  • margin-right: 3; margin-top: 3; margin-bottom: 3" endency toward nervous exhaustion from doing battle with conceptual obstacles

Kuja's attributes in the 3rd Pada of Purvabhadrapada Nakshatra (ruled by Guru/Ravi) include:

  • contradictory statements of purpose

  • courageous

  • research orientation [this attribute is increased dramatically by Kuja in Kumbha rashi and Mithunaya navamsha ]

  • eventually, success in scientific innovation or philosophical argument

parivartamsha yoga with Yogakaraka L-4+vidyapathi-5 Shani

  • parivartamsha yogas are stabilizing and strengthening, but when they strengthen two malefics the result is nevertheless malefic in terms of increasing *work*.

  • Result = doubled resistance and effort for the native regarding matters of indoctrination and licensing levels of education (4), creative expression of divine intelligence (5), wealth hoarding, acquisition of knowledge of history and languages (2); marriage, agreements, and alliances (7)

  • Kuja acquires "virtual Vrischika" which adds a tantrik and psychological quality to the research orientation

Auspicious drishti from gainful bhava-11 friends Surya and Guru

  • concern with community ethics and politics (drishti from Simha/Surya/Guru)

  • ego volatility - Simha/Kumbha is a delicate lagna ruled by the two enemies, Ravi and Shani

in dazamamza-10 , Mangala = Yogakaraka L-5+karmesha-10

Kuja occupies navamsha lagna, 5th dazamamza-10

professions = teaching philosophy, conceptual scientific research, research medicine, homeopathic medicine, mind-body research, theoretical work of any kind, planning and organizing large-scale events, operating educational associations, connecting electro-magnetic devices and sharing research via global networks

medical applications are much enhanced by Meena=Chandra = bhava-6

Attributes of dharmesha-9 +ruler-of-12 Budha:

  • L-4+ruler of 7th-from-Chandra lagna

  • Budha receives drishti of Mangala

  • karaka for communication, mentality and intimate relationships

  • Owns and occupies radix bhava-12 , uttama (imagination, loss of identity, sanctuary, foreign lands )

  • hostile drishti from enemy Chandra, and career-karaka Kuja

  • in navamsha, Budha = L-1+L-4

  • in dazamamza-10 , Budha = L-3+ruler-of-12

  • Occupies 9th navamsha , 12th dazamamza-10

  • Budha receives dazamamza-10 drishti of Kuja

  • uttama-Budha = radix randhresha-8 +L-11. Budha is gainful and occult.

  • uttama-Budha = bandesha-4 +ruler of 7th-from-Chandra. Budha is educational and alliance-building.

  • drishti upon Budha from dharmesha-9 Chandra, gives religious sensibility and gains from mutually fruitful aspect of dharmesha-9 +L-11

  • mental-emotional tension between Chandra and Budha :

    • sensitive Chandra feels friendly toward chatty Budha

    • but mentalistic Budha sees intuitive Chandra as an enemy

    • Budha also receives drishti of Kuja, some impulsive speech

Biographical Data:

This middle-aged native has served as a teacher and trainer in commercial and academic settings. Her formal education is in the fields of religious philosophy (lagnesha Zukra/Mithuna/9) and linguistics (uttama-Budha/12). She has taught in those subjects and multiple additional subjects (Mithuna) at the college level and in community and corporate institutional settings in a variety of countries and cultures (Mithuna).

This native normally earns income through the service of describing and explaining things (bhratrupathi-3 Guru in 11) in an autocratic, intellectual style (Surya).

  • Kuja = eccentric, esoteric and conceptual in Kumbha.

  • Parivartamsha yoga = two malefics Kuja and Shani. It does strengthen the ability to defend oneself against enemies, but it also makes the proving battles a necessary and permanent element of the incarnation.

  • uttama-Budha is highly organized and occasionally gainful, due to Budha's natural commercial inclinations.

  • Surya is regally independent and morally authoritative. Native is well-connected through interlocking global communities.

This native has developed an eccentric, intellectualized, and highly independent research career.

In addition to writing (bhratrupathi-3 Guru in gainful bhava-11), she earns through delivering instruction. Both university classroom instruction and Jyotisha interpretation (3) are sources of income.

However, the pioneering Kuja and autocratic Surya influences push this native so far out of the mainstream that she would not likely find a place in conventional business or academia.

This despite the powerful intelligence of both Surya and Budha.

Somewhat jokingly this native self-identifies with the modern educational disability label"oppositional-defiant". In practice this label applies to students who pick fights with their teachers and are unable to tolerate authority in any form (generally the extreme types end up in prison). Of course this is an exaggeration, and this native works successfully with authority when necessary. But there is a kernel of truth to the designation due to the dominant, highly independent and self-expansive Surya-Guru combination, agitated by Kuja (however tamed by drishti from Shani.)

Kuja is just too dominant, too intensely conceptual, and too much energized by the regally independent Surya to tolerate a restrictive employment for very long.

  • In fact, except for one 2-year Kuja bhukti in her 35 working years of life, this native has always been either a sole proprietor of her own business or an"independent contractor" to institutions - never an employee.

Due partly to Kuja's signification as Atmakaraka involved a very peculiar yoga - the parivartamsha which converts the regulated, systematic rashi of Kumbha into more comfortable Vrischika-influenced house - her professional path is both personalized and spiritualized .

Her professional identity is also decidedly family-based bhava-2 partner in the parivartamsha yoga). She is first and foremost a mother, but also a professional writer and contract language tutor, as well as the author of these Jyotisha pages.

Kuja featuring all this unusual plumage in bhava-5 of"creative intelligence" suggests a teaching and literary career in conceptual philosophy, or other highly complex and abstract topics. In fact this native is an advanced student of esoteric philosophy; as well as a contract teacher, housewife and mother. Her professional office is inside her home (Kuja/4).

(Who could propose a more eccentric, independent, career than professional Jyotisha?!)

Dear Barbara,

I hope you are in good health. I would like to first thank you warmly for your most excellent Jyotisha website.

I have been a regular visitor for the past 10 years and your treasure trove of unique insights presented in a lucid and accessible style has been an invaluable reference in assisting my own, private Jyotish studies. Making such a vast and in-depth resource available for free is indeed a genuine act of self-less karma.

I recently read your interview with Juliana Swanson for JyotishStar e-magazine

Here you provide your birth details (24/08/56, 12:12pm, Chicago) and a chart is also displayed further down the page with Libra ascendant. Before generating your chart using Jagannatha Hora (without having seen your chart further down on the page), I pondered on candidates for your ascendant, Moon sign and other key influencers.

For me, most likely were Pisces, Scorpionis with a strong link to Ketu. The chart I then got from JHora has Scorpionis as ascendant (with Saturn+Rahu) and Moon in Pisces, house 5. Ketu influences the first from the 7th house. This made good sense, particularly with Jupiter in 10th house (teaching) and 8th lord Mercury exalted in 11th and aspecting Moon in 5th. I was therefore surprised to see Libra ascendant presented further down.

I tested a range of ayanamsas close to Lahiri, and they give Scorpionis rising. Your birthtime is also very much borderline. Given your extensive Jyotisha experience and strong intuition, could I please ask why you may have settled on Libra as your ascendant? Or is this simply due to use of different software? Perhaps because your birthtime is borderline between two ascendants you may have confirmed Libra based on events? Any pointers related to this would be most appreciated to assist my research.

Many thanks.

Warmest regards,

Thanks for your nice note with compliments - much appreciated! Chicago births in 1956 are recorded without DST, so the first step is to make sure that any DST switch is set to 'off.' In addition, Chicago is a widespread city geographically (30 miles long and 15 miles wide) so that most software default locations for Chicago are often inaccurate (unless the person was born in the downtown center).

In fact I was born at Resurrection Hospital on the far northwest edge of the city of Chicago, nearly 20 diagonal miles from city center. Using Lahiri ayanamsha, DST off, and my birthplace = Resurrection Hospital

41 59' 15" N + 087 48' 50" W

(not the default Chicago coordinates) should produce a lagna of 29 Thula = Visakha-3.

Thula-confirming biographical details include

mother = registered nurse with chronic illnesses Chandra-6 while lord of Chandra in 6th-from-6th;

husband from a distant land 7th-from-Chandra = 12,

university studies in religion and language-teaching methods lagnesha Zukra-9 Mithunaya.

My maternal grandfather was a grumpy banker (9th from Chandra = Vrischika-2 banking). His small bank was one of the very few to survive the 1930's Depression (parivartamsha Shani-2 with Mangala-5 -- due to his willingness to accept * extremely modest but regular * loan repayments (Shani) he had very few defaults.

Maternal grandmother was a jewelry saleswoman and she loved to travel worldwide (4th from Chandra = 9 global; Zukra jewelry Mithunaya sales). The maternal grandfather hated world travel = 8th-from-Chandra = bhava-2 6th from 9th; the maternal grandmother traveled mainly with her sisters (Zukra ).

fleshdeath of mother during bhukti of Budha-Mangala maraka rules-7 + ruler of 2nd-from-Chandra.

Birth of son Guru bhukti, temporarily overcoming the anti-putra effects of Mangala-5.

Working Jyotishi = Budha-uttama-12.

Ruler of the 10th navamsha = Guru.

In addition to Jyotisha practice, I also teach in an international program (Guru) at a university (Guru).

I hope the above reasoning helps to answer your question! I completely agree with you that careful rectification of 'cusp' birthtimes is essential.

wishing you every happiness and continuing success in your study of the samayavidya,

Lord of Radix karmesha-10 = Chandra = navamsha of Mangala

Native follows an unusual pattern of earning through a rashi of Mangala :

The peculiar expression of a Mangala-driven career can be explained by examination of the peculiar nature of Mangala in the nativity. Mangala not only occupies a rashi of Shani but also engages in a parivartamsha with His lord bringing both the creative-expressive powers of a scientific 5th house and the articulatory, historical interests of the 2nd house to the fore.

Mangala is also has lordship over Rahu, and Rahu is involved in the parivartamsha, so that the historical material becomes exotic, and somewhat taboo, which Shani imposes a systems viewpoint, and Shani insists on the most scientific possible (and often the slowest possible) articulation of the knowledge.

Phaladeepika - Chapter 5, Shloka 4:

"If the lord of the 10th house occupies the Navamsha of Mangala , The sources of income or livelihood will be through:

  • metals,

  • serving for fighting battles,

  • cooking, lands, gold,

  • causing troubles to others, weapons,

  • Adventure,

  • Association with wicked men,

  • spying, or through theft"

Swakshetra Surya is gainful on bhava-11 despite being dominated by combust less benevolent L-3+rogesha-6 Guru.

  • The dashamamsha-10 association of Surya with Zukra, amplified by Rahu, suggests that the native will invest public moral authority (Surya) in expertise grounding a profitable business (Guru/11) regarding matters of social identity and occult or hidden information.

Radix karmesha-10 Chandra

karmesha-10 Chandra occupies bhava-6 in the rashi of Guru. Chandra's lord Brihaspati is dignified in Simha in the profitable 11th domain.

Although Chandra is very humble in bhava-6 of social conflict, medicine and servitude, the negative health implications are somewhat relieved by Brihaspati's dignity in precisely 6th-from-6th.

Chandra does deliver illness and debt into the incarnation, but these experiences generate wisdom (Brihaspati) and the wisdom gained serves to fuel the native 's gency in the marketplace.

Chandra is adequate to provide public dignity, in 9th-from-10th = bhava-6. Ari bhava is an artha house concerned with material matters.

Chandra occupies Uttarabhadrapada Nakshatra, which is also a gainful Nakshatra . However natives of Uttarabhadrapada are famed for their fortified residences and need for deep seclusion, due to profound intolerance for engulfment.

his native may have a distinguished and profitable career. Yet Chandra in Uttarabhadrapada, ruled by the deeply resting and contemplative Ahirbudhnya, must have assurance of protection from the "inquiring mind" of the public as well as time for uninterrupted deep thought.

Career is defined as world service (karmesha-10 in bhava-6). Some great leaders such as Franklin D. Roosevelthave had this call to serve the masses as well. The job is never well-praised due to the animosity and conflict emitting from bhava-6.

Chandra in Meena rashi in bhava-6 = clinical medicine. Typically, when Chandra occupies bhava-6 + a guidance rashi of Guru = inspiration for the victim class, teaching about conflict and imbalance-seeking-a-remedy .

Each person presents as a clinical case (6) seeking descriptive logical argument and prescription (Budha).

rules 10th-navamsha career = Guru

Chandra in bhava-6 implies a longer, harder road to profitability. Yet, despite the evil portfolio of Ari bhava, a path toward achievement is created by Chandra's Professor Guru = Ruler of the 10th navamsha. Guru as primary significator of career = ethical = gainful.

Although it is a secondary level of observation which is not definitive, complete career analysis should seek confirmation from role of 10th-from-10th = Yuvati bhava

  • bhava-7 = Mesha.

  • L-2+ yuvatipathi-7 Kuja = lord of 10th dashamamsha

  • Kuja's eccentric character has been articulated above

  • the native does considerable consulting on matters of bhava-7 and bhava-2, including marriage/relationships, family, and death. The approach is eccentric, scientific, and conceptual (Kuja/Kumbha).

  • Kuja occupies the Nakshatra of Purvabhadapada, in the 3rd quarter

  • Das commentary of pada-3, "Your outward expression is mischievous but not inwardly. In other words, you think one thing [serious philosophy] but do another [speak lightly even frivolously]. You are bold, courageous and inclined to do research and finally attain name, fame and reputation."

yuvatipathi-7 Kuja in the gainful 11th-from-jaya-bhava

ruler of 10th navamsha = Guru = radix bhratrupathi-3 and rogesha-6 in bhava-11

Das commentary regarding Guru in the 1st quarter of Purvaphalguni Nakshatra :

"You will show abundant friendship and be highly learned in various fields of science. You have an excellent general knowledge on various subjects and will be wealthy."

However there are some obstacles. Das commentary that when L-3+rogesha-6 Guru occupies bhava-11 in Simha rashi:

"... activates your mind so much that your mental balance may be disturbed if your work does not progress according to plan, and if your domestic life doesn't provide adequate opportunities for the expression of your feelings. You sometimes face danger."

  • L-3+rogesha-6 Guru is less benevolent for Thula lagna.

  • bhratrupathi-3 and rogesha-6 are not only dushthamsha, but also they are the natural bhava of Budha who sees Professor Guru as an enemy.

  • In practice, Budha's houses are places where detailed, short-term, immediate, scripted, and repetitive processes occur. Guru will tend to over-philosophize the naturally mundane and short-attention-span behaviors.

Despite being a relatively less benevolent bhava-pathi, Professor Guru is nevertheless ruler of 3, and He also aspects bhava-3 (Dhanuzya). Benefits the instructional and descriptive capabilities, apprenticeship, training, such as conferences, seminars, professional continuing education seminars, and internet publishing.

Although lagnesha Zukra in this nativity does occupy bhava-9, signifying a mentalized and conversational engagement with religious liturgy , Guru does not favor priesthood in this nativity. the native is not a religious icon nor a recognized authority in any religious tradition. Guru in this nativity is community oriented, welcomes the sangha, and stimulates discussion amongst a confident, morally aware, elite assembly (Simha/11) of wisdom-seeking individualists.

Professional specialty =

  • providing wisdom teachings (Guru)

  • on matters of goal-setting and achievement (bhava-11)

  • As well as business activities (bhava-3)

  • And service roles (bhava-6).

  • the group discussions (bhava-11)

  • involve subjects connected with moral and political behaviors (Simha),

  • And rational philosophy (Surya).

  • the native 's style is highly individualistic and confident (Guru yuti swakshetra Surya)

  • yet grounded in the wisdom traditions (Guru)

  • while expressing the traditions in a highly practical and mundane conversational practice (bhava-3)

  • through publications media (bhava-3).

Guru occupies Purvaphalguni Nakshatra, which gives a keen interest in occult subjects, and an expansive capacity to develop discussions on matters of individual ethics as well as social policy and practice . Guru is well-placed here in the Nakshatra of the Aditya Bhaga eternal no-limits indivisible, who bestows wealth and presides over love marriage.

Although well educated with special skills training in ethics and social policy, as well as a broad competence in occult history and divinatory technique, one struggles with an imbalanced and heavily mentalized workload of teaching, writing, and lecturing.

bhratrupathi-3 gives self-owned business, with lord in 9th-from-3rd, is profitable. rogesha-6 gives debt, servitude, social conflict, disease.

The danger = sickness and animosity caused by over-expansion of analytical thought and Guru's natural disregard for Shani's time-clock. Result = "too many tasks " for the allotted earthly hours.

An additional danger is The intrusion of reactionary, conflict-ridden lower class (bhava-6) personalities into the somewhat elite debate regarding social-ethical practice.

These personalities have the opportunity to damage the career. They are tightly connected with the mothers relatives in bhava-6.

The intrusion of inappropriate voices in the discussion is much reduced due to the auspicious presence of the Uttarabhadrapada Chandra in bhava-6.

In reality, the mother's relatives created some resistance to the native 's education in religious philosophy. In the longer term, the native had sufficient individual integrity (Surya in strength) to transcend these enemies.

10th-from- Chandra - psycho-emotional true service: Lord = Guru

10th-from-Chandra = 3 Dhanau.

Emotionally, this native is wanting to serve in humanistic educational skills training and media publications, in the role of a teacher and facilitator (characteristics of Guru.).

Professor Guru always likes to teach, and as bhratrupathi-3 he has a special connection to writings and publication. Guru occupies 11th-from-lagna, yuti Surya, making the writings of bhava-3 accessible to large-scale networked assemblies of bhava-11.

Zukra Mahadasha

CAREER: Guru = lord of 10th-from-mahadasha pati = bhava-6

  • Mahadasha of L-1+randhresha-8 Zukra = L-3+randhresha-8 from Chandra.

  • Numerous imbalances-seeking-a-rememdy can be expected during Mahadasha of lagnesha Zukra due to Zukra's challenging angles vis--vis most of the graha in the radix nativity. In addition, Zukra is afflicted by Ketu in navamsha.

  • Notably, Professor Zukra = randhresha-8 measured from BOTH radix lagna and Chandra lagna. the native can expect considerable effect of "sudden, unexpected changes " through the auspice of the randhresha-8 during the 20 years of Zukra Mahadasha.

  • In this nativity, there is only one truly comfortable bhukti during the entire 20-year duration of Zukra Mahadasha : the Zukra-Mangala period. All other periods forecast particular out-of-alignment events in the game-plan which require special realigning attention:

Zukra-Zukra period = "double randhresha-8 " effects

Zukra = L-1+ randhresha-8 from Thula lagna + bhratrupathi-3 + randhresha-8 from Meena Chandra

As randhresha-8 , Zukra dhanakaraka may be expected to produce some hidden monies in the form of inheritance, insurance settlements, or possibly alimony.

Ketu in bhava-8 reduces the output and may cause confusion or disorientation in the distribution of such funds.

  • Inheritance-1

At onset of Zukra's mahadasha, the native received the sad news that her maternal grandfather had died. A small but much appreciated inheritance arrived.

Zukra-Surya period = Surya in 3rd-from-Zukra; rogesha-6 from Chandra

Surya = Vriddhipathi-11 from Thula lagna + rogesha-6 from Meena Chandra

  • Inheritance- 2

  • A second small inheritance occurred after the death of the maternal grandmother. Distribution of these funds was notably delayed (Ketu, 11th-from-Surya)

  • fleshdeath [7th] of mother's mother [4th-from-Chandra] = bhava-3 Dhanusha. Effect of Guru = produced in the period of Surya, who can give the results of His companion and tenant Guru.

  • 3rd-from is a mentalized angle which is restless and somewhat ego-driven. rogesha-6 -from-Chandrais a notoriously difficult graha for emotional matters, and how much more virulent when the Will is so pronounced and Surya joins the Thula-negative L-3+rogesha-6 Guru!

  • Not favorable for balanced relationships either personal or professional. Good for personal accomplishments.

  • Yet the willful and creative character Surya as Vriddhipathi-11 in 11says that the native may Accomplish important goals. the planning, publication, and administrative functions as well as short-term travel (holidays, business travel) are emphasized. Surya facilitates earnings and social networking . The Vriddhipathi-11 brings networks of friends who join together in pursuit of mutual goals. Socially, this is a good period with sibling-type (3) friendships established and personal goals achieved.

  • Zukra and Surya = mutual enemies , less benevolent. Furthermore Surya in this nativity receives drishti of Mangala, Shani, and Rahu (by association). Surya is a graha under siege.

  • Professionally it is a bit of a dicey period due to the adversarial relationship between Ravi and Zukra. On the one hand, the native wants to indulge in the sweet pleasures of money and luxury. On the other hand, Surya is honest, brilliant, and a seeker of only the purest philosophical truth. As karaka for Ego, Ravi also needs a measure of public recognition.

  • the native may be inconsistent in work practice - moving uncomfortably between high-profile glamorous or prestigious roles and more practical money-earning jobs. Despite the ego's need for recognition, 3rd-from emphasizes the mundane tasks of information management/publication, announcements, reports, secretarial work and less on the more rpestigious people management or executive decision-making roles. The 3rd-from angle supports self-made financial well-being , therefore contract work and other independent income is favored but longer term agreement such as a new corporate-hire position are not.

Zukra-Chandra period = Chandra in 10th-from-Zukra

Chandra = karmesha-10 from Thula lagna + lagnesha-1 from Meena Chandra

  • This period is beneficial for career . Chandra is a problematic graha due to Soma's residence in the troubled Ari Bhava. However, in 10th-from-Zukra, Chandra gives fortune and opportunity through professional leadership roles during Zukra periods.

  • There may be heavy responsibilities in service work, perhaps a lower job title than might be expected (bhava-6 for servitude) and peer or advising relationships are difficult to bring into stable agreement. Sometimes also sickness, due to Chandra in 6. Nevertheless the angle is supportive of professional recognition, job promotion, and nomination to leadership rank.

Zukra-Mangala period = Mangala in 9th-from-Zukra

Mangala has a"double-L-2" effect = L-2+yuvatipathi-7 from Thula lagna + L-2+dharmesha-9 from Meena Chandra

  • this period is fortunate overall due to Mangala's 5/9 angle from Zukra.

  • Mangala in 12th-from-Chandra is a terrible maraka, but Kuja's favorable angle from Zukra will protect from adverse consequences. the native will receive gifts and opportunities; world travel for scientific or networking purposes; and religious education or re-connection with a priestly role.

Zukra-Rahu period = Rahu in 6th-from-Zukra

Rahu = amplification of both Shani and Mangala = L-4+vidyapathi-5 + L-2+yuvatipathi-7 from Thula lagna + L-11+ruler-of-12 + L-2+dharmesha-9 from Meena Chandra

  • this period can be forecast to be exceptionally difficult [6th-from-mahadashapati] yet passionately exciting and very complex!

  • Zukra-Rahu is a classic timing for impulsive or foreign marriage, typically to a spouse from an incompatible or conflicting cultural background. the native finds debt, conflict, and demands from foreigners or outcasts at every turn. Yet, Rahu is with the Yogakaraka Shani in this nativity; things can't be all bad.

  • Despite the Shani-Rahu position in 6th-from-Zukra, there may be some opportunity for stability (via L-4) through educational service or work in the hospitality industry (6). In fact, the native worked as a teacher.

  • Long-term employment agreements are very difficult to sustain due to Rahu's unstable and boundary-challenging nature positioned in the adversarial 6th-from the mahadasha-pati. Yet, however rocky the path becomes, there will be sufficient capacity to craft agreements and also sufficient financial resource, food, et-cetera -- due to the parivartamsha benefit from L-2+yuvatipathi-7 Mangala.

Zukra-Guru period = Guru in 3rd-from-Zukra

g uru = L-3+rogesha-6 from Thula lagna + L-1+karmesha-10 from Chandra

  • Similar to the Surya period above, with a twist: Guru is a papa-graha for Thula lagna . In Guru's karaka function, He always brings blessings. Brihaspati may be expected to produce children in His periods no matter what other misalignments might be present. However as the L-3+rogesha-6 from lagna, Guru is a troublemaker.

  • bhratrupathi-3 promotes excess mentalization, causing a burdensome yet philosophically superficial workload of tasks which have little value in apprehending a greater wisdom. The rogesha-6 brings constant interference from adversaries, servitude to lowly tasks and trouble from employees or underlings, and often illness consequent to sustained anxiety and stress.

  • Zukra-Guru period may provide a mix of nature's blessings (such as children and wisdom-teachings) along with the general evils of the 3rd-from angle: excessive administration, planning, skills training, and publication related tasks. The 3rd-from angle supports self-made financial well-being , therefore contract work and other independent income is favored but longer term agreement such as a new corporate hired position are not.

  • if married and separation is imminent, may be the period of divorce

Zukra-Shani period = Shani in 6th-from-Zukra;

Yogakaraka Shani = L-4+vidyapathi-5 from Thula lagna + L-11+ruler-of-12 from Meena Chandra

  • Exceptionally difficult and demanding with a very heavy workload and almost no relief [Shani] . Zukra-Shani are a friendly pair therefore the native will not expect other than sustained hard work as a means to earn The financial well-being that Zukra wants. Nevertheless the 6th-from angle promises debt, conflict, and demands from adversaries, with particular emphasis on financial disagreements in marital and professional relationship. Yogakaraka Shani will not harm the native but the nature of the work is home-security oriented (4) and may become especially demanding due to needs of children (5).

  • Despite the Shani-Rahu position in 6th-from-Zukra, there may be some opportunity for stability through educational service or work in the hospitality-tourism industry (6).

  • Survival issues push to the fore during any Shani period, and when Shani occupies 6th-from the mahadasha pati His pressure will be felt directly in the survival centers of the oldest parts of the brain. There is a powerful urge to worry (Shani) about money while the desire for wealth (Zukra) remains uncomfortably strong. Yet, however rocky the path becomes, there will be sufficient life balance and also sufficient financial resource, food, et-cetera -- due to the parivartamsha benefit from L-2+yuvatipathi-7 Mangala.

Zukra-Budha period = Budha in 4th-from-Zukra

Budha = dharmesha-9 +ruler-of-12 from Thula lagna + L-4+yuvatipathi-7 from Meena Chandra

  • 4th-from-Zukra is always difficult. Also by this point in the Vimshottari narrative, the native will have experienced negative stress and pressure from a long series of challenging angle s during the bhukti periods of Surya, Rahu, Guru, and Shani. Indeed even the Zukra/Zukra period is less benevolent due to Zukra's "double-randhresha-8 " role.

  • uttama-Budha forecasts a period of sharp conversational, linguistic, computational, and administrative capabilities. 12 = research and 9 = philosophy

  • Budha is also a karaka for educational achievement via writing and examinations in the Budha-discipline of linguistics. the native completed a graduate after finishing a complex written thesis and defense in the Zukra/Budha period.

  • Affiliation with universities (9) temples (9) and meditation centers (12) foreign lands and cultures (12).

  • Dream life may be vivid. Career-wise however there is little momentum. Troubles at home (4) such as parenting issues, home stability or security, and conflicts about mani-money or property, will be the typical troubles during a period of 4th-from-Zukra. Budha's good status in the nativity assists in the articulation and graciousness of the situation, but the auspice of the period of any graha in 4th-from-Zukra is problematic.

Zukra-Ketu period = Ketu in 12th-from-Zukra, Ketu's lord = Zukra

Ketu = gives mainly the effects of"double randhresha-8 " Zukra = L-1+randhresha-8 from Thula lagna + L-3+randhresha-8 from Meena Chandra

  • this period, lasting approximately 2.2 years, forecasts an intensive experience of death-and-rebirth of the personality-identity.

  • Zukra/Ketu period will not kill the physical body; however there is so little forward-moving physical energy (1) available that the native may succumb to the dissolution of vitality (exhaustion) syndromes which often accompany sustained effects of 12th-from. (Various types of infections, inability to heal, mental disengagement.)

  • In addition as the final bhukti of a 20-year mahadasha, the Ketu sub-period of Zukra Mahadasha is a time of closure, completion, and forgiveness . It is nearly impossible to start anything of importance during a final bhukti - such as a new marriage, a new job, moving into a new home etc.

  • A natural challenger papagraha in 8th-from-lagna which is also 12th-from-mahadashapati cannot yield much benefit, excepting in tantrik or psychic development where it can give extraordinary insight. In the material world, this period will give loss, wandering, uncertainty, and rejection of the"normal".

  • Disconnection and disassociation in relationships (Zukra). Loss of interest in conventional religion and apathy regarding the university and temple system which disseminates the higher knowledge. Protective, vitalizing Kundalini energy flow may dwindle, resulting in temporary and recoverable injury to brain, neck, or spine.

  • End of a cycle. A good deal must be forgiven, including career and professional aspirations which did not materialize during the many difficult sub-periods of Zukra Mahadasha. Excellent period for dream work and ego-detachment focus in meditation.

Mahadasha of Surya

Overall character of the period:

  • Vriddhipathi-11 = dominated by L-3+rogesha-6 Guru because Brihaspati has the higher degree.

    • rogesha-6 = usury + indebtedness, conditions of poverty.

    • Budha lord of 11th from Surya = ruler-of-12 in 12"expenses on good account". Budha gives the stronger effect of His mulatrikona rashi. There may be significant expenses which harm the material luxury levels but which do produce a spiritually beneficial outcome. For example, expenses incurred for purchase of library study time (12) or religious retreat time (12) or to fund distant pilgrimage travel (12).

Overall success = marred by Surya = rogesha-6 from Chandra + Surya is strong by shad-bala.

  • Therefore animosity, debt, and disagreement on an emotional level (Chandra lagna) may increase even while social-material goal achievement (11th from radix lagna) is accomplished

11th from Surya = primary source of earnings during Surya major period = dharma bhava. dharmesha-9 = uttama-Budha in 12 = income from temple or university sources

10th-from-Surya = bhava-8 featuring Ketu, a graha of detachment, meditation, disconnection, and withdrawal from material life obstacles to spiritual progress. Surya Mahadasha produces an era of inwardness and Detachment from public career.

  • Zukra and Surya = mutual enemies , less benevolent.

  • Mahadasha of Simha Surya = famed as a time when the native wants [six years of]"peace and quiet" at the top of the mountain (Simha) for the purpose of developing one's awareness of divine intelligence (Ravi) in the universe (11).

  • Despite Surya's swakshetra auspiciousness and Surya's association with performance art, Mahadasha Simha Surya does not normally produce great Outer expressions in the native 's public life.

    • Rather, The inner life is extremely vivid and dynamic, with the individual intelligence developed to exceptionally high levels during this period

bhava-8 = 10th-from=Ravi = Tantric or transformative practices . Zukra occupies the rashi of Mithuna in bhava-9, which brings association of communication and writing in the topical area of religion and humanistic spiritual philosophy. the native 's career expression is greatly limited by Ketu in 10th-from-Surya during the Surya mahadasha, but such production as there is = ephemeral or spiritualized writings

Surya-Surya swabhukti

Surya = Vriddhipathi-11 from Thula lagna and rogesha-6 from Meena Chandra

  • Social-material 6-month forward burst of positive will power (Ravi), social networking (11) and goal-achievement energy (11).

  • Emotional period of conflict in regard to parenting (Chandra) and home-base relationships (Chandra). Emotionally motivated illness, typically fever (Surya rogesha-6 from Chandra).

Surya/Chandra period,

  • Chandra = karmesha-10 from Thula lagna + lagnesha-1 from Meena Chandra

  • Social-material and emotional misalignments due to shad-ashtaka 6-8 angle Chandra-Surya.

  • Sudden, forced changes (8) in parenting (Chandra) and other emotional-habitual behaviors caused by the new agenda of Surya's social activism (11) and goal=oriented behaviors

Surya/ Mangala period,

  • Mangala has a"double-L-2" effect = L-2+yuvatipathi-7 from Thula lagna + L-2+dharmesha-9 from Meena Chandra

Surya/ Rahu period,

  • Rahu = amplification of both Shani and Mangala = L-4+vidyapathi-5 + L-2+yuvatipathi-7 from Thula lagna + L-11+ruler-of-12 + L-2+dharmesha-9 from Meena Chandra

g uru = L-3+rogesha-6 from Thula lagna + L-1+karmesha-10 from Chandra

  • if married and separation is imminent, may be the period of divorce

Surya/ Shani period,

  • Yogakaraka Shani = L-4+vidyapathi-5 from Thula lagna + L-11+ruler-of-12 from Meena Chandra

Surya/ Budha period,

  • Budha = dharmesha-9 +ruler-of-12 from Thula lagna + L-4+yuvatipathi-7 from Meena Chandra

Surya/ Ketu period,

  • Ketu = gives mainly the effects of"double randhresha-8 " Zukra = L-1+randhresha-8 from Thula lagna + L-3+randhresha-8 from Meena Chandra

Surya/Zukra period,

Zukra = L-1+randhresha-8 from Thula lagna + L-3+randhresha-8 from Meena Chandra

  • coming at the end of six years of Surya Mahadasha, brought a period of intense, productive writing on tantric and mystical subjects, including the Vidya of Jyotisha. This writing generated career visibility and some public dignity of leadership in the field.

It is not reasonable to expect high levels of career success during Surya Mahadasha.

Surya's empowerment is restricted by a harsh aspect from enemy Shani.

  • In addition the bhukti which might have produced the maximum career recognition, Surya/Zukra, occurred during the Transit of Shani through Surya's rashi of Simha - thus doubling the oppression upon gainfulness and mobility in the marketplace.

Mahadasha of Chandra.

karmesha-10 occupies Aristhana = 9th-from-10th and 10th from 9th.

Karmadhipati = Lord of radix Karmaa Bhava

  • Professor Guru is well-positioned in a fortunate 5-9 angle from bhava-3 , Dhan ushya.

  • Guru = lord of Meena Chandra, which raises the auspiciousness of career activities during Chandra Mahadasha.

  • Like Surya, Guru receives the drishti of Shani. However for Guru, Shani is not a fierce enemy, and the drishti can be managed with attention to rules and regulations of the nation, state, and organization within which the native is working.

(Results: a relatively gainful 8-month period featuring gain of clothes and ornaments (5) however accompanied by the ever-present expenses (Mangala occupies 12th-from-mahadashapati) and skin afflictions (Kumbha).)
