Distinctive features of the Nativity:
-
Chandra-Mangala yoga
in nearly every varga; in radix 11. No matter Mr.
Coolidge's external expression of values, on the inside this
fellow was emotionally driven by instinct for turning a profit.
This is not to say that he
personally earned unusual quantities of wealth - in fact, the lord
of Chandra-Mangala yoga is Budha who occupies domain-12, which
dissolves most of Coolidge's personal wealth (not all, but most of
it).
Coolidge was not personally a rich
man. However, his beliefs (L-9 Mangala) about marketplace
relationships (L-11 Budha) influenced an entire nation for 6
years. The historical consequences of one man's strong convictions
are worth noting.
-
When L-9 occupies domain-11,
the expression of belief shifts from religious to scientific
or ideological. Domain-11
represents the rules, or the purported rules, which regulate
the marketplace of human exchanges of goods and ideas.
Coolidge was a passionate believer in marketplace competition,
and by complement a strict opponent of any type of government
contradiction of the "natural rules" which determine the
dominance of the fittest. Thus his leadership suppressed trade
unions, and supplied federal enforcement to stop strikes and
protests.
-
Chandra + Mangala is
exceptionally driven toward personal profit, based on an
emotional conviction that "competition"
(fair or not) is the key value in life. "Fair" is a value of
Shukra. Unless Shukra is also strong, the competition may be
as nasty as necessary in order to reveal the natural
dominator. Chandra + Mangala always gains significant profit -
through fair means or foul.
-
In particular,
Chandra in Ardra favors "wildness".
-
Coolidge presided during the
"Roaring Twenties" of USA financial "wildness" - when the law
of the jungle seemed to prevail in financial markets (11).
-
Systematically oppressing
labor strikes from his earliest days as Massachusetts
governor, Coolidge was a great friend to capitalist owners and
an enemy of the common worker's struggle for higher wages.
-
Many historians consider
Cooolidge's laissez-faire economic policies to have
plunged the country (and much of the financial world) into a
deep monetary depression, soon after the end of his six-year
administration.
-
Magha
nakshatra in radix lagna. Ketu ruled Magha expresses regal
entitlement with a tremendous detachment, often expressed as a
total lack of effort.
-
Ketu, lord of the
rising nakshatra, occupies domain-4 of land, country,
schooling, the early childhood home, and patriotism. Coolidge
was perceived as a deeply patriotic man. Indeed, he carried on
his 1924 presidential election campaign while grieving the
death of his son, so that he might continue to serve his
country if his country desired it.
-
Coolidge's family home (4) had
neither running water nor electricity. In typical Ketu
fashion, Coolidge's parents (4) determined that these
utilities, while commonly easy to obtain at the time, were
either unnecessary or required too much effort to obtain.

As Guru mahadasha proceeded, Coolidge held
a series of local, city, and state official positions.
Except for one School Board election
(which he lost because his marriage had not yet produced children), he won
every contest - often running unopposed. Ketu in 4 = schools.
L-6/L-7 Shani Mahadasha

-
Coolidge's wife, Ms. Grace Anna
Goodhue, a schoolteacher, is described as a cheerful and
conversational person but not lacking in traditional Vermont
austerity. Most observers felt she was the key to his social
success. Despite the dour implication of his L-7 = Shani,
Coolidge's Shani receives drishti of the talkative Mithuna graha
Chandra, Surya, Mangala, and Shukra. Shani occupies the gainful
11th-from-7th, indicating that his wife was indeed a great and
steady friend.
Shani/Rahu
-
elected governor of Massachusetts
-
elected Vice-President of United States
under
Warren G. Harding

does not like!) = catastrophic change at the last moment
- there were only a few months of the final bhukti of the
Shani mahadasha left to go
-
but there is a fixed contract (Shani,
7th-from-Chandra) which leads to a stable and lawful transition to a
new public leadership role.
-
Guru = L-7 (10th-from-10th) and L-10

During the presidency, Coolidge
continued the policies of non-interference in market capitalism (Budha

-
Budha in 12 = non-comment on most
issues, "Silent Cal"
Budha/Ketu
-
Patently refused to run in the 1928
presidential election, although he had one legal term left and was
considered highly electable by his Republican party managers
-
Ketu = withdrawal, refusal to

attack, at home, age 61
-
Mangala = L-4 home, "end of
things". When death is not timed by the classic L-2 or L-7,
the L-4 may be the timing agent
-
Ketu, signifying disconnection,
suggests that Coolidge may have not asked for help with his heart
problems
