Health 6:

Burned over 30% of body in House Fire

Near-fatal drowning

A classic Mula nativity

Extraordinary Recklessness - Extraordinary Healing

At age 36, this man was massively burned in an accidental  house fire, started by his unsupervised child.

This is one of my favorite Mula nativities, because the life narrative is just so richly, vividly  ... Mula!

  • Gajakesari Yoga, Nishturabhasi Yoga

Narrative history:

  • native was a teenage alcoholic and high-school dropout. (At a later point in his Mula cycle, the native became a dignified and well-loved high school teacher.)

  • in the darkest days of sex and alcohol addiction, while still a teenager, the native experienced a radical lifestyle and identity change due a "born again" religious conversion which involved monogamous marriage and drug-free living

  • After a period of faithful sobriety, the Mula native returned to a promiscuous and drug-addicted lifestyle

  • he was married (Shukra) and divorced (Ketu) three times in rapid succession, producing multiple progeny (Guru).

  • At the time of the tragic house fire (Mula, 4) this man had recently completed a grueling multi-year cycle of drug-alcohol addiction (Mula) and recovery (Mula).

  • While recovering from near-fatal burns, in a state of limited physical mobility and significant nerve damage, the Mula native decided to swim in  swift-current river - where he nearly drowned, within view of his entire family.

  • In later life, he enjoyed a stable professional income (as an educator, 4) for several years. However, he neither paid past debts nor saved money. Therefore when his job suddenly ended, Mula and his family lost their home (4).

Distinctive features of the nativity:

Mula

  • A striking complex of graha in Mula Nakshatra in bandhu bhava (home, house, education, mother, "roots") indicates a cycle of home evictions, and the near-fatal house fire

  • Moon in Mula, Chandra = lord of 8th-from-Chandra

  • Guru in Mula = lord of Trimshamsha

The "fire trine"

  • Graha in Mesha, Simha, and Dhanau - increase of pitta = "heat" = in the life force patterns

Mangala in 8

  • The notoriously sexual and impulsive swakshetra Mesha Mangala inhabits randhra bhava, receiving drishti of super-magnifier Rahu-Simha.

  • Behari says, "Sometimes serious losses will come suddenly, and plans will have to be suddenly changed. "

Rahu = significant impact in the nativity

  • Two-thirds of the graha in the nativity = Rahu/drishti of Rahu.

  • The Mula cluster in 4, and Mangala-Mesha-8, = amplified by Rahu

  • Rahu drishti to L-8 from lagna [Kuja] -and- L-8 from Chandra [Chandra]

    • From lagna, Rahu's drishti impacts L-3,  L-4, L-5  L-6, L-7, L-8,  L-11;  Rahu occupies 12 [bed pleasures, loss of identity]

    • From Chandra, Rahu's drishti impacts L-1, L-2, L-3, L-4, L-5, L-8, L-12; Rahu in 9th-from-Chandra

    • From BOTH lagna and Chandra, Rahu impacts the L-3 [mentality, siblings], L-4 [home, security, education], L-5 [children], and L-8 [forced, sudden changes];

Details of a Tragic Accident in the Period of Mula Chandra

  • Chandra = Lord of 8th-from-Chandra

Burns covered 30% of his body, primarily the arms & torso with severe tissue damage to face & hands. Native rescued the fire-starting child. The child was very slightly burned.

The terrible damage to his own body required extensive hospitalization, followed by three years of  physical therapy & multiple plastic surgeries.

Recovery period involving considerable nerve pain and severe disability =

  • Chandra/Budha - Budha in 6/8 from Chandra, Lord of Budha = Chandra

  • Chandra/Ketu - Ketu in 6, illness and injury; clinical medicine (many many medical appointments)

  • Chandra/Shukra - Shukra receives drishti of Chandra

  • Chandra/Surya- Surya receives drishti of Chandra

A remarkable Mula recovery

The native has emerged from his ordeal, robust & attractive (despite some scarring) with a healthy social life. He returned to college at mid-life and completed a special education diploma.  He now works with traumatized & difficult children.

Remarkably, the surgeries & physical therapy - although excruciatingly painful - were very successful.  This native is naturally handsome.  Most observers do not detect that he has been profoundly burned, except on rare occasions when the minor nerve damage in his hands is apparent..

Burn treatments on this scale are rarely so successful, but when L-8 is powerful and Mula is involved, there can be extraordinary healings.

Near-death from burns

This tragic fire occurred in Chandra/Budha/Surya period.

  • Surya = lord of Rahu = wild and unpredictable results of sleep and dreams (the native was asleep when the deadly fire started)

  • Surya = lord of vyaya = hospitalization

  • Surya receives drishti of the Mula Chandra.

Near-drowning

About 18 months after onset of his terrible burns (and in partial recovery from them), native attended a family picnic near a rushing river.  He was sucked under water by the strong current, his arm skin still too damaged to allow forceful swimming, and nearly drowned.

The near-drowning occurred in Chandra/Ketu/Shani period

  • Shani = L-6, accidents

  • Shani = lord of Ketu

  • Surya = yuti the Mula Chandra.

Highly Activated Randhra bhava

helt6_dasha_rev.GIFRandhra bhava the house of surgery, transformation, healing, emergencies, secrets, and terrible sudden shocks such as earthquake & tsunami.

In this nativity, randhra bhava contains the sexual, muscular, active Mesha-Kuja. Mesha is a karaka for Fire.

Kuja receives the amplifying, dramatizing aspect of Rahu.

The near-fatal accidents (burning and drowning) occurred during Rahu-Ketu transit to   Simha/Kumbha axis. This Rahu transit created the famed "Second Rahu Return" which can cause major havoc if rogue planets are involved (see death of Princess Diana).

The nodal return very much empowers Rahu, who dramatically magnifies the emergency scenarios sitting in Randhra Bhava, just waiting to be "hatched".

Why he didn't die: Faith

This native is quite spiritually aware.  The pain & austerities imposed upon him by his horrible burns have in fact deepened his spiritual sensibilities.

According to the sages, Mula is a rather extreme location, from which frightening, hard-to-explain things seem to emerge.  But since Mula is the gateway to the path to the central galactic Sun, these frightening things tend to have excellent spiritual results.

At the time of the native's terrible emergency, his prognosis for survival was questioned.  However we note that no natural or temporal maraka  is involved in this catastrophic series of events (fire, coma, multiple surgeries, unbearable pain, and drowning).

The temporal maraka graha for Kanya lagna = L-2 Shukra and L-7 Guru.

Graha which can cause "emotional saturation" which leads to endings of emotional relationships (but not to physical death) may include L-2 from Chandra = Shani, and L-7 from Chandra = Budha.

The Chandra-Budha period, where Chandra occupies Mula, Chandra is lord of Budha, Budha occupies 8th-from-Chandra, and Budha is lord of 7th-from-Chandra, is certainly a set-up for a shocking near-death experience -- but this combination would not create a physical death. Physical death is normally associated only with Vimshottari periods of the maraka bhava pati as measured from radix lagna - the L-2 and the L-7 - or possibly with periods of the natural marakas, Mangala and Shani.

Eventually, this native will die in an automobile collision, by gunshot or knife, or in an act of war. However, Shukra is combust (weakened) therefore only L-7 Mula Guru is really empowered to create death in this nativity, and the period of Guru's maraka empowerment occurs rather later in life.

Therefore, awful as it looked at the time -- especially when attending physicians told the family not to expect recovery - since statistically few survive burns of this magnitude --  no prognosis of death could have been issued during Chandra/Budha period.

The victim's mother (Chandra) a licensed nurse, abandoned her own life for the duration of Chandra/Ketu (nursing, 6)  period to support her son's recovery.  Thus he received  very devoted service (6) and conversation (Ketu in 3-from-Chandra) during the critical period -  no doubt essential to a remarkably successful recovery.

However, the greatest influence upon this native's full rehabilitation to life, including 'almost' no permanent, severe damage to his appearance, was his own intrepid spiritual willingness to undergo whatever tests God provided

Despite excruciating pain, he maintained a trusting faith in God's will despite the fact that his pain looked and felt like divine wrathfulness.  The native did not slip into Victim Mind.

The native is not an externally dramatic man. While authentically intelligent, he is a modest member of the working class. His life path has been oft-diverted from the divine goal by many self-destructive choices.  An utterly combust L-2/L-9 Shukra, while L-11 Chandra is dominated by the L-6 Shani, has prevented this man from attaining much wealth.

But he has always had faith.
