A SOURCE OF REFUGE

" Day and night, naight and day we spend our lives in the company of the afflictions,

generating desire for the pleasant and anger at the unpleasant,

and continue thus even when dreaming ,

unable to remain relaxed, our minds completely

and utterly mixed with thoughts of desire and hatred without interruption.

To what refuge should we go?

  • A source of refuge must have completely overcome all defects forever; it must be free of all faults.
  • It must also have all the attributes of altruism - those attainments which are necessary for achieving others' welfare.
  • For it is doubtful that anyone lacking these two prerequisites can bestow refuge; it would be like falling into a ditch and asking another who is in it to help you out.
  • You need to ask someone who is standing outside the ditch for help; it is senseless to ask another who is in the same predicament.
  • A refuge capable of protecting from the frights of manifold sufferings cannot also be bound in this suffering but must be free and unflawed.

Furthermore, the complete attainments are necessary , for if you have fallen into a ditch, it is useless to seek help from someone standing outside it who does not wish to help or who wishes to help but has no means to do so.

Only a Buddha has extinguished all faults and gained all attainments.

Therefore, one should mentally go for refuge to a Buddha, praise him with speech, and respect him physically.

One should enter the teaching of such a being." [end quote]

How non-maraka bhukti of vyaya-pati can produce maraka effects

vyaya-pati being disconnected from materializing forces = particularly sensitive to the effects of incoming drishti from more aggressively materializing graha.

For example, if ruler-of-12 receives drishti of the natural marana-karaka graha dhanapati-2/yuvati-pati-7 Mangala or dhanapati-2/yuvati-pati-7 Shani then periods of ruler-of-12 may produce considerable death even though ruler-of-12 itself is not a maraka.

The most vigorous fatal effects of dhanapati-2 drishti upon ruler-of-12 occur for Tula indriya-lagna, where Mangala is the empowered energized maraka dhanapati-2 and yuvati-pati-7 while ruler-of-12 Budha is naturally characteristically not a doer but an explainer who carries out the instructions of stronger agents.

Consequently for Tula nativities Budha bhukti have the potential to produce much death in circumstances related to Budha's two bhava as well as related to any graha receiving drishti of Budha.

For Simha indriya-lagna also, watch the relationship between Shani and Soma. ruler-of-12 Chandra = extremely absorptive. The drishti of maraka yuvati-pati-7 /randhresha-8 Shani into Chandra signals that periods of Chandra may produce maraka effects.

Behind the Veil

Boundaried and unboundaried

imagination, imagery psychic guidance, psychedelics, psychotropics, other Worlds, meditation, clairsentience, invisibility. sanctuary. privacy, distant lands

Activities of shala-bhava-12 occur primarily behind the veil on the astral plane and in private spaces that are "invisible" to the public eye.

Dreams, meditations, and prescient apprehension occur in the native 's imagination. // imagination // = the shimmering field of imagery which surrounds and penetrates the physical embodiment .

Although psychic imagery from the astral plane feels "unreal" compared to five-senses hard reality, astral information is not inherently misleading or invalid. Rather, astral imagery is the seed from which most material experience will later develop.

Clairsentient skill is necessary to receive the guidance so freely offered by angels and other missionaries who show the pathway from physical to astral wisdom. Uttama graha in bhava-12 or ruler-of-12 in exaltation may indicate birth endowed with clairvoyant, clairaudient, or other clairsentient capabilities.

  • Periods of ruler-of-12 = dissolution and deterioration, usually a slow process, including loss of attachment to the densified embodiment form, and gradual cessation of physical movement, increasing the identification with the sleep-dream state

  • Periods of ruler-of-12 from Chandra may induce a tremendous sense of emotional loss which is deep and ineffable, and goes on for years (perhaps an entire mahadasha of ruler-of-12 -from-Chandra.) One born into the period of ruler-of-12 -from-Chandra may carry this sense of loss for a lifetime; similarly if the ruler-of-12 -from-Chandra plays a critical role in identity construction such as location in kendra, especially in lagna. This is a sad period despite other gains and successes that may be associated with the gifts of the graha which is ruler-of-12 -from-Soma.

When lagnesha occupies bhava-12, the native is greatly inclined toward"bed pleasures " when lagnesha occupies bhava-12. Naturally, bhava-12 being 6th-from-7th, the unboundaried activities in this house are known for their animosity toward the boundaried contract of marriage.

Yet one rarely achieves emotional intimacy of genuinely shared partnership, due to being so identified with the world inside one's own head.

12 = Brihaspati's bhava of private spiritual guidance

9 = doctrine, preaching

12 = retreat from the material world

In regard to the potential negatives in bhava-12, outcome of the script depends on the qualities of the ruler-of-12 and graha residing in bhava-12. bhava-12 is the least harmful of the three major dushthamsha ( bhava 6, 8 and 12).

  • In addition to the negative associations of"loss " which accompany the"12th-from"angle from any lagna, Vyaya bhava has a number of highly positive associations such as

  • spiritual meditation retreat, dream visions, prophetic revelation, clairsentient intelligence, and the safety of sanctuary in hospitals and monasteries.

  • Guru's bhava of"sacred teachings, doctrine, theory" dharma bhava

Privacy

Matters of bhava-12 are inherently private.

  • As an active agent, the ruler-of-12 can communicate one's private, imaginative information into the public consciousness are that is indicated by the house occupied by the ruler-of-12 .

  • However, this will only happen if the ruler-of-12 is empowered to do so.

  • By default, matters of vyaya bhava begin in privacy and remain hidden from all but the most intimate companions.

Beds and Bed Pleasures

shala-bhava-12 rules the bed and /bed pleasures/ .

The particular companion with whom one shares matters of bhava-12 is the bed companion.

  • Ironically, bhava-12 = 6th-from-7th, which suggests that the private intimacy of bed pleasures and the deep psychic communion experienced by those who sleep together is an activity adversarial to marriage.

  • Being 10th-from-10, marriage-7 is a saliently public activity. At its basis, marriage a social contract detailing mutual duties and benefits of the alliance.

  • The other-worldly matters of bhava-12 can drain one 's energy away from the performance of contractual social duties, away from the upholding of promises and agreements, and"backwards " toward the past-life and the contract-less permissions of the private bed.

QUOTATION from Tenzing Gyatso Answers: Discussions with Western Buddhists. José Ignacio Cabezón (Ed.)

Realizing the Truth while Living in the World

Question:

In order to realize the truth spoken by the Buddha, is it necessary to be in a retreat situation, or can one realize it by doing work of a helping nature in the community?

And what is the relative importance of both kinds of situations?

His Holiness:

" In general, if one can do both, it is best.

I think this is the practical way to do it; for the greatest part of the year, we have to live in society, we have to lead a good life.

  • We have to live properly, and be an honest , sincere human being.

  • But for a few weeks, or two months, or three months, to make retreat , to forget other worldly business and to concentrate solely on one's practice, ithink this is the very best way.

If, however, someone has a special vocation for the hermitic life, if someone has a talent for living and practicing in isolation and can make a special effort to achieve good results, then of course it is a different question.

Then it may be worth-while to live in complete isolation and to put all of one's energies toward practicing. But this is the exception and quite rare.

I think that among one million people, there may be one or two with this type of talent or vocation."

Moksha

dhatu मुच् [release]

Moksha

Strong ruler-of-12 or empowered graha in 12 = physically related production of polarizing catalysis

Yet spiritually a moksha bhava can bring liberation which means realizing the power to dissolve the fleshly embodiment while still inhabiting the fleshbody.

  • When conscious, ruler-of-12 gives the gift of the opportunity to complete the transitional re-entry from material consciousness back into primary astral consciousness ("death" ).

  • Excellent when ruler-of-12 = an empowered graha to show the way of meditation, prayer, clairsentient apprehension.

Superior trance-medium capabilities. Coherent , positive relationships with the ancestors and spirit guides.

The three moksha * liberation * Sthana = bandhu bhava, randhra bhava, and vyaya bhava show one's advance from fascination with material desires to spiritual dissolution and apathy toward desire. It is desire which motivates incarnation, and the dissolution of desire which permits liberation from obsessive attachment to form.

  • The twelve rashi (signs) are divided into three equal sections. The foundation section of each chart, houses 1-4, proceeds from the creation of physical embodiment itself at bhava-1, and ends in the resting place, end of matters of bandhu bhava.

  • Bandhu Bhava profiles destruction of the one's ego-attachment to the products of Tanu Bhava-1 Its condition indicate the cessation of socially-responsive individuality, merging into the family identity. This merging of individual into family causes destruction of one's primitive identification with individual desires - and elevates the consciousness to the natural affection of putra bhava.

the personal creativity section, bhava 5-8, proceeds from the creation of bodies for children or ideas at bhava-5 and ends in "emergent mystery" of Randhra bhava. In the portion of life which is indicated by the conditions of randhra-sthāna-8, the incarnate one merges ego-attachment to products of personal creativity into the larger cosmic creative forces. (That is why healing is an 8th-house function.)

This merging causes destruction of one's primitive identification with one's own children, creative works, personal achievement, etc. - and elevates the consciousness to the natural compassion of dharma bhava dharma bhava.

The contribution-to-civilization section, bhava 9-12, proceeds from the creation of a body of wisdom-knowledge at bhava-9, and ends in"full dissolution" of the social identity in Vyaya bhava. In the 12th house, one merges the socially defined religious, philosophical level of truth with the ultimate universal truth.

This merging causes destruction of one's primitive identification with one's own religion, philosophical beliefs, knowledge, etc. - and elevates the consciousness to the natural liberation of Vyaya Bhava,"redemption"r.

Vyaya bhava, the vyaya-pati, 12th-from-Chandra, 12th-navamsha, and ruler of the 12th Chaturamsha, give prognosis for potential de-obsession resulting in spiritual liberation in this game-session-life.

ruler-of-12 Behavioral Qualities of the Voices of the Ancestors

vyaya-pati = an extremely influential graha. Due to its material invisibility, the 12th house may be underestimated or even ignored by materialistic positivists (Budha, shani, shukra folk).

However, the ruler-of-12 is a powerful agent of instruction.

This graha shows what the ancestors want you to do .

  • They will speak to you in dreams.

  • They will meet you at the bridge when you cross over from physical consciousness to astral consciousness.

  • They have a broader perspective and can guide you if you will tune your senses to pick up their signals.

  • They want the best for you, since you are sustaining the lineage into which they will eventually be reborn!

  • If ruler-of-12 = Instructor-Explainer-Describer Professor Budha , ancestral instructions will be complex, detailed and abundant (12)

Old Path White Clouds 1926-2022 Interbeing Thich Nhat Hanh

" If you look deeply into the palm of your hand,

you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors.

All of them are alive in this moment.

Each is present in your body.

You are the continuation of each of these people."

bhava-12 represent the subconscious mind and its imagery , Astral world of dreams , and imagistic communication from ancestor spirits .

ruler-of-12 is associated with"loss ". But this is a tricky area. ruler-of-12 does not automatically or even naturally give loss. What it does tend to give is confusion and dissociation, which create a psychic disturbance which results in unclear decisions which THEN give loss!

But matters of ruler-of-12 are not inherently evil nor is loss inevitable.ruler-of-12 may facilitate many types of gain, actually.

In a strong nativity, the ability to distinguish and heed (when appropriate) the instructions of the spirits as a non-material but often valuable level of information, can be a tremendous asset in life leading to gains of skill and wisdom

What ruler-of-12 does cause is "loss of personal control" . Matters of bhava-12 are rarely subject to conscious control.

The ruler-of-12 expresses the voice of the ancestors . This is a literal voice (usually a collection of voices) which the average person only hears in dreams or as a background "suggestion" in waking life.

Clairaudient folk can hear these voices in normal daily process, and they understand that the voices come from the spirits of those with whom one has past-life association.

However, naormal people cannot usually distinguish the voice of the ancestors. Most people confuse the voice of the spirits with their own natural voice expressing the body-mind's wishes and desires.

Due to the confusion (which is due to a lack of 'musical training') most people have Learning Pathway experience of signals from the ancestors as unconscious manipulation. Things seem to be going exactly opposite of plan. That is precisely what I didn't want. What a terrible result, afailure after all my work. Etc.

The astral programming is felt as a drain upon one's personal desire and a cause of" inevitable loss ".

But this is not a problem-set of malicious spirits! It is a problem-set of psychic discrimination. It is necessary to learn to separate the desires of those who are no longer in bodies and who wish to use the densification process of embodiment to accomplish their intentions, versus the desires of one's own self who is in a body and who should have priority in choosing what the embodiment will or will not do.

Matters of vyaya bhava is composed entirely of images and are not amenable to rational analysis, thought or planning.

However, bhava-12's activities can be rationally interpreted or analyzed at some remove -- exempli gratia, via Divination.

ruler-of-12 Collaboration with the Spirits, re-connection to Parallel Lives

bhava-12 rules one's // other // lifetimes. There are always and perpetually many"live" connections from parallel lifetimes which seek a voice in one's current life.

Those spirit voices from the astral plane"break through" normal material consciousness via the membrane of vyaya-bhava and the agency of the lord of the 12th-bhava.

Also to some extent strongest imagery of 'other' lives is evident via 12th navamsha and it's ruling graha. Check for the material behavior of the ruler of the 12th navamsha within the radix. This graha will have special psychic sensitivity to messages from guides.

Spirit guides including ishtadevata can be recognized in the 12th from atmakaraka within the navamsha varga.

ruler-of-12 Loss turned to Gain

Matters of vyaya bhava can be skillfully directed through meditative communication with spirits, and that awful sense of malicious manipulation and"loss " can be completely avoided.

One can experience a feeling of cooperation and connection with one's parallel lives and those who were beloved in those lives!

  • This Astral re-connection when fully established is not at all a loss but a very satisfying gain! However, it is necessary to pay the bridge toll of surrendering one's rigid ego-expectations of how things should be going in the current life, at regarding matters of the house which is occupied by the ruler-of-12 !

  • In vyayasthāna-12 and in the bhava occupied by vyaya's lord, it is essential to have collaborative working relations with the spirits!

Losses on Good Account

Vyaya bhava provides losses on good account = material losses converted to spiritual gain, the gain of moksha or liberation .

  • Charitable donations, expenses of holy pilgrimage, and earnings lost while time is spent in meditation and selfless service, are the type of financial loss profiled in bhava-12 and 12th-from-SOmana.

Loss of Personal Identity

  • Periods of ruler-of-12 involve loss of identity. If ruler-of-12 is strong - e.g. uttama, svakshetra, or Vargottamshain important varga - then the loss of identity may be quite severe. The identity will return, in a more seasoned and spiritualized form, when the period of ruler-of-12 has passed.

  • Periods of ruler-of-12 often involve shocking losses of lifestyle, social definition, identity-defining relationships (such as marriage), and even parts of The earthen body . ruler-of-12 is a karaka for conflict in marriage and business partnerships. However+ ruler-of-12 is not a death karaka.

Foreign residence or extended foreign travel

Periods of ruler-of-12 frequently involve foreign travel.

  • Being away from home creates a moderate loss of identity. Usually without recognizing it, one is returning instinctively to countries and cultures where one has taken previous births. Foreign travel may seem purposeful for business or holiday objectives, but underneath the seeming purpose is a quest to reconnect with memories which contain essential information about the Self.

  • Because one cannot understand the language, folkways, ancient customs, and established cultural norms, foods, family relations, etc. of the foreign land, the awareness is liberated for additional reflection. Foreign travel is thus for most people an extended meditation. Or at least, foreign travel is a meditation opportunity. In reality most people simply sleep more when they are away from their homelands.

  • Living or sojourning in a land where one does not speak the language or understand the folkways, ancient customs, and established cultural norms creates a serious loss of identity. Long lasting periods of ruler-of-12 will move the native through a number of identity-losing environments.

  • The type of foreign travel that insulates the tourist from the culture around them, such as business conferences in international hotels, packaged holiday tours, etc., are expressions of bhava-3 (short trips).

The period of ruler-of-12 should produce more substantial disorientation.

If ruler-of-12 is strong, and rules two travel houses, forecast significant personality-identity loss through living in a foreign culture during the period of ruler-of-12 .

E.g., shukra for Vṛścika indriya-lagna rules both bhava-7 and domain 12; Guru for Mesha indriya-lagna rules both bhava-9 and bhava-12.

As with all ruler-of-12 effects, this loss of identity which puts the ego-membrane on hold for awhile, gives the native An invaluable experience of ego-membrane disengagement, which advances spiritual awareness..

Lagnesha in bhava-12

If lagnesha occupies bhava-12 , identity remains weakened throughout life. One may be a spiritual aspirant, alate-in-life immigrant, asubordinate in domineering relationships, or they may work in a sanctuary enclosure such as hospital, monastery, prison, or research lab.

Whatever the environmental cause, the native 's identity is masked (often by a uniform) and their ego-membrane individuality is constrained by the obscurity of their role.

Spouse and children

  • As 6th-from-7th, bhava-12 signifies adversarial angles in marriage and business partnership. During periods of ruler-of-12 , the conflict may manifest as spouse/partner's illness, financially-produced polarizing catalysis , law breaking, or other imbalanced behaviors.

  • As 8th-from-5th , Vyaya bhava turns the cycle of birth and death regarding children. ruler-of-12 is * not* a karaka for death of child. Rather+ ruler-of-12 signifies major phoenix-like trauma and healings, including surgeries or psychic therapies, for the children - especially the first child.

Marriage problem-sets in bhava-12

6th-from-7th indicates Animosity in marriage and illness or indebtedness of the [first] spouse

6th-from any bhava shows the person represented by that house engaged in their pre-incarnationally planned struggle with enemies, debts, and disease. So, naaturally, 6th-from-7th represents debts of the [first] spouse. If your 6th house or its lord is strong, this life will be scripted to enforce neutrality regarding the spouse's debts .

  • Periods of ruler-of-12 do come around regularly. Like any other type of loss, impoverishment through the illness, animosity, or poor financial judgment of the spouse are precious opportunities for moksha. Simply approach the problem-set with neutrality, accepting the reality of pre-incarnationally planned payoff through the vehicle of spouse's contribution to your life.

12th-from any bhava shows one's liberation from bondage to that house's signification. For example, 12th-from-yuvatisthana = Ari bhava shows final Divorce , the end of the first marriage. 12th-from-2nd or tula bhava shows shows second final divorce, the end of the second marriage. Etc.

[divorce is not vyanasthāna but rather aristhāna which is 12th-from-yuvatisthāna.]

Traditional Sacred Gems for ruler-of-12

If vyayabhava-12 or its lord is strong AND you are married, do not wear the gem for ruler-of-12 ! Doing so encourages marital conflict.

By contrast, ruler-of-12 can benefit those who choose a celibate religious lifestyle.

If you have taken vows of austerity, you consciously desire ego-detachment, and you like living in an enclosed space, then ruler-of-12 will help you to achieve your meditative goals.

If you are finished having a personality - just really done with it - by all means accept the gift of the gem for ruler-of-12 !

Fantasies, imagination, and Pleasures

As the wellspring of detachment from material reality and the bridge between one's current and previous lives, Vyaya houses the subconscious, the imagination, dreams, and fantasies. All moksha-bhava are" beds, resting places. Naturally Vyaya is associated with"bed pleasures " - romantic-sexual fantasies, and the companions who help us indulge them.

Perhaps ironically, elaborate sexual imagination detracts from the / business / of marriage. As 10th-from-10th , yuvati bhava is primarily concerned with public status gained through partnership. As 3rd-from-5th , yuvati focuses on"task" of producing children. While the"task" is famously accomplished in approximately three minutes, matters of Vyaya bhava are liberated from the ego-attachment to time... So there is a natural animosity between the public performance of marriage duties versus the resource-squandering private indulgence in"bed pleasures ".

Naturally, it is possible to develop the romantic and sexual imagination within the bounds of holy matrimony. However, yuvati bhava = artha, material accumulation. Ego -attachment to status of marriage is a good thing for the stability of organized society, but it is not a good thing for spiritual liberation. One of the peculiar effects of loosening of ego-membrane's bondage to the relentless task of maintaining a public status is the loosening of rules for expressions of love.

Thus those with a strong Vyaya 2nd-from-11th (sensual enjoyment of extramarital affairs) may enjoy the company of outside lovers. Alternatively, they may prefer divine love to human love, and accordingly seek sanctuary in monastic life.

Recent worldwide proliferation of love marriage as opposed to traditional arranged marriage signals both loosening of parental ego-membrane and the breakdown of society through weakening of marriage duty. Check the relationship between Vyaya (bed pleasures), putra (sentimental love), labhabhava (extramarital romance 5th from 7th), and yuvati (formal marriage) bhava to determine the native 's balance.

Body Parts

  • left eye

  • feet

  • lymph system

  • wounds from accidents

Strong Vyaya bhava gives clear vision through the left eye and also energetic clarity of reflective intuition, the psychic "left eye" . Feet will be intelligent making an excellent dancer.

Conversely, malefic effect on Vyayasthāna-12 may provide polarizing catalysis from sluggish lymph drainage or wounds that resist healing, with extended convalescence, especially during periods of the vyaya-pati-12.

One blessed with strong Vyayabhava (feet) and Sahaja bhava (hands) can be skilled in healing through foot reflexology.

Imprisonment

The old Latin name for bhava-12 is carcer (incarceration) meaning imprisonment.

Periods of ruler-of-12 may feel physically or psychologically sequestered. Captivity within some type of enclosure, ranging from monasteries and religious compounds to prison camps and worse. (Dungeons and holding cells under the ground must involve bandhu-bhava however.)

  • one suffers from invisibility due to disengagement with material-plane life force. Much suffering through lack of recognized social identity, dissolution of personality, lack of socially affirmed physical definition and the ease of movement which accompanies full possession of identity.

  • ruler-of-12 in 3 = writes about the Learning Pathway experience of imprisonment or invisibility

  • statelessness, wandering, refugee.

  • Inability to fully energize the muscular, animal form. Prolonged illness due to absence of vitality.

  • Period of the ruler-of-12 + sub-period of a graha which occupies the 12th-from the ruler-of-12 can = result of pre-incarnationally planned imprisonment, under even the best circumstances.

Sometimes imprisonment is less brutal and can be utilized as a forced retreat for purposes of study and reflection. However, naormally the experience of lacking the power to direct one's embodiment at will, being corralled into an enclosure, is a negative feeling.

QUOTATION from Tenzing Gyatso. The Buddhism of Tibet. Jeffrey Hopkins (Trans. Ed.). (2002).

" If we do not wish merely to know intellectually about the view of emptiness,

but rather wish to experience it ourselves in our own continuum,

we should build a firm foundation for this.

  • Then, according to our mental ability

    • we should hear and consider both the sutras and treatises

    • which teach the profound view of emptiness

as well as the good explanations of them by the experienced Tibetan scholars in their commentaries.

Together with this, we should learn to make our own ways of generating experience of emptiness

accord with the precepts of an experienced wise human."

Repaying of Debts Foreign Residence - Foreign Travel that is greatly extended or expanded, or takes one into Distant Worlds

Bhukti of the vyaya-pati may provide extended foreign travel or foreign residence. (Compare to sahaja-pati who grants short-term travel, such as brief holiday vacations, domestic business trips or frequent intercity commutes.)

  • For some nativities, "foreign" can mean remaining within the national boundaries of one's own country while living amongst a people (for example one's in-laws) or in an ethnic region which is slightly different culturally from the place one was raised - for example a place of different language or different religion.

  • For other nativities, if the 12th-lord is especially strong for good or ill, adramatic change of environment such as moving from the first world to the third world or reverse, can transpire.

The essence of 12th-house experience is isolation with an element of animosity from the parts of oneself regarding which one is in denial. Therefore whatever extreme of alienation, separateness, and foreignness - that transcendent or terrifying sense of living in a private bubble - the 12th lord by character requires, will occur during the periods of the 12th lord.

The period of the 12th lord might bring a change of residence from one continent to another, or from the city to the countryside, or from the home of one's parents into the home of strangers. But there will always be a theme of separateness, cultural (possibly national) foreignness, and needing to live in the"sanctuary space" of one's own head in order to survive the mini-death of not being adequately understood or recognized.

  • If the 12th lord occupies the sign of Mithuna, for example, periods of the 12th lord tend to induce immersion-type travel experiences where the native must cope with radically different language and culture environments. Mithuna being a sexual sign, aMithuna 12th lord brings some tendency to develop sexual relationships with the foreign people during one's sojourn, in order to insure survival by bonding deeply with foreign environments.

If the gainful Vriddhi-pati occupies bhava-12, one may experience profit from his longer travels.

Sleep

The 12th-lord brings dissolving energy, the energy of detachment and preparation for death, into whichever house He occupies.

ruler-of-12 rules sleep.

Native's sleep patterns may be determined by function of ruler-of-12 .

Exempli gratia,vyaya-pati-12 in bhava-8 is 'hidden' or "destroyed" which gives meditation but also - naturally if one is conscious during the astral phase - also loss of normal sleep.

Sleep Consciousness

" [discussion of meditation, and clinical evidence of consciousness during sleep] Allan Hobson:

... in non-trained subjects, when we perform awakenings in the various stages of sleep, we get less and less evidence of conscious experience.

In other words, the deepest stage of non-dreaming sleep, defined physiologically, is associated in our untrained subjects with very low levels of consciousness.

And in fifty percent of the awakenings there is no evidence of consciousness at all."

Thubten Jinpa

  • " I think there is a certain misunderstanding of this term "consciousness."

  • In the Western philosophical or psychological term, consciousness is conscious,

  • whereas, when Buddhist translators use the term, it has a wider meaning. It includes both the subconscious and unconscious levels as well."

Alan Wallace

  • " The terms "conscious "and "unconscious "are not used in Buddhism.

  • Rather, one speaks of differing degrees of clarity and subtlety of awareness .

  • Even when someone has fainted, for example, and is regarded, in Western terms, as unconscious, from a Buddhist perspective a subtle level of consciousness is still present."

Dalai Lama:

" As early as the seventh stage [of the eight stages of sleep,] approaching deep sleep, you would say that your awareness has declined.

That is, the mind is not clearly apprehending anything.

  • In Buddhist psychology, we refer to sleep as one of many mental factors.

  • There are fifty-one mental factors, among which sleep is one.

  • But it is said that the mental factor of sleep precedes the deep sleep state, meaning the non-dreaming state,

  • just as fear may proceed fainting without going into it.

Consider an analogy:

Once you have fainted, you feel no fear. However, it can be fear that leads to your fainting.

So the fear doesn't go with you into the fainting.

Thus, analogously, in the non-dreaming deep sleep state, the mental factor of sleep has already passed."

astral plane imagery

Graha in 12 give direct access to the astral plane imagery of symbolic communication, imagistic instructions, evocative dreams, instantly manifesting wishes, and mind-body emotions such as intense desires and shape-shifting, terrifying fears.

bhava-12 is a tremendously creative and intuitive realm, but it is important to understand that matters of domain 12 do not materialize according to the rules of terrestrial physics .

  • Latin / res / = English / object, thing / Greek / phenomenon /
  • Res = root of the English words reality, real, realism, realistic, surreal, real-estate, et cetera.

They remain in the intuitive, astral, dream-like condition. The dream world is a "real" place with "real" inhabitants and "real" relationships, but it is not a third-dimensional material plane.

The subtle substance which composes reality on the astral plane is not constrained by time , and it does not have physical boundaries e.g. it is quite possible to walk through a brick wall and fly across the universe in an instant when one is operating in the astral mode of perception.

Graha in Vyaya Bhava

If multiple karaka occupy bhava-12, results of each karaka have to be combined and rebalanced with the other occupying karakas.

Graha in bhava-12 require special handling in life.

Graha in 12 may provide remarkable clairsentience, according to the perceptual capabilities of the graha.

E.g.,

  • Surya perceives a source of divine identity in other worlds,

  • Chandra is emotionally hyper-perceptive , and deeply connected to the ancestors

  • Kuja senses an astral challenger or predator, and subconscious aggressions by this challenger may result in victimization [being eaten]

  • Budha is mentally-analytically clairsentient; when well-disposed, budha can communicate the instructions of the astral guides

  • Guru senses the presence of ancestor-teachers who provide wisdom-guidance through meditation and dreams

  • Shukra notices sensual pleasures in the dream space; ancestral partners can influence how one seeks to balance and harmonize in life

  • Shani can detect the astral imagery of ancient fears and shortages, historic punishments, and threats to survival.

Clairsentience

The clairsentient experience generated by graha in bhava-12 is absolutely real, but it is not materially real. Therefore, the native with strong graha in 12 must learn to distinguish the real experience of the astral realm from the real terrain of the physical realm!

And also to appreciate that most of the perceptions encountered in the astral world will not likely materialize into gross physical form, at least not without special tantrik highly focused concentrated attention to the complexities of the intentional materialization process.

One who lacks this level of discrimination, between the proper realm of uniquely individualized astral perception (one's own dreams and intuition) versus the nature of common material experience which most living humans share (time, space, food, cintamani * mani * money , the body) may slip into delusions of fantasy, phobia or // denial // that signal mental and social dysfunction.

  • in order to avoid mixing the expectations, it is recommended for one who has crafted the preincarnational plan to place graha in bhava-12 to become educated about the bridge relationship between ethereal and material planes .

On the dream plane, expect extraordinary guidance and brilliant intuition About the hidden motivations of the people in one's environment, prescience due to alert messages that a particular astral form is on schedule to materialize, and direct communication with ancestors, angels-messengers and gods. On the physical plane, expect Hard Reality, real cold and real heat, real Time and real Space boundaries (e.g., don't try walking through walls or being in two places at once) and the Anna-maya-koshathat needs to eat real Food!

12th-from = dissolving. Graha in 12 work to "pull out" energy from the materializing processes. Matters which are 12th-from are in the process of retreat from materialization and return to their astral (imaginative) roots. The material fortunes of the domains owned by any graha in vyaya bhava lose their vitality. E.g.,

  • dhanapati-2 in 12 dissolves the financial well-being

  • vidya-pati-5 in 12 dissolves the material children

  • Dharmesha-9 in 12 dissolves the material priesthood, professorship, and/or it dissolves the material father

  • karmesha-10 in 12 dissolves the material rank and career.

Matters of the houses owned by a graha in bhava-12 are performed in dreams, wishful thinking, and in astral consciousness.

Any graha which is uttama or svakshetra in bhava-12 gives effective communication with spirit guides and ancestors. foreign identity Graha in 12 provide some form of identity with foreign lands and cultures. This is a form of"bleed through" from the parallel life , which is not really past but is literally simultaneous, although it is occurring on the astral plane and not normally accessible through daily consciousness

Nativities with strength in 12 are overall weakened by the"backward pull" of astral imagery, pictures and feelings from the 'other life' which in the 'present' life function as "the imagination" . The awareness is sucked into the dream state more than one might want for purpose of material productivity Sleep the native needs a good deal of sleep, or very deep meditation, in order to stay fruitfully connected to the other life.

Shani-12 = deprived of needed sleep and always exhausted If the graha is healthy, one may be able to port the information from the past-other life into the current life. If the graha is damaged, the loss of vitality may be palpable; the native does not know what's wrong; why the dreams are so disturbed and not about matters of the present life. Hypnosis or past-life regression may help Language capability and surprising knowledge of foreign cultures

Connections of Surya-Budha-Shukra to 12 can provide speedy acquisition (re-start) of foreign languages and easy access to knowledge of foreign cultures. One may possess surprising fluency in the vocabulary and concepts of a culture into which one was not physically born or raised. From where does this information come? And the urge to pursue it - such as the urge to study Italian if one was raised Chinese? It is a past-life cross-over, and it should be seen in Vyaya bhava, the house of the astral bridge .

these foreign (12) capabilities are only mismatched with reference to the passport of the present time. They are properly matched to the other life. It will help a good deal to accept the idea that there is another life operating, and that the boundaries between it and the present life are being challenged by strong graha in bhava-12. Again, hypnosis or past-life regression may help Present-life change of country or religion

If the graha in 12 control enough business in the nativity as a whole, one may feel permanently disconnected and be unable to stabilize any one single cultural identity.

Those who switch countries, cultures, religions, or primary languages during the course of a lifetime are usually materializing some urgent but incomplete business from previous-other lives.

This process can be so"discombobulating" that the native withdraws into contemplation or another form of retreat, such as sleep, during the period of the draining, other-life-directed graha huge knowledge of 9 and 12 [move to cadent houses page] 9 and 12 = Guru's houses: places of co-existence, inclusion, and expansion.

There is more going on knowledge-wise in Brihaspati's natural domains 9 and 12 than in any other bhava.

  • 3, opposite of 9, = practical, hands-on, mundane skills training. 9 = world travel = exposure to the magnificent and tremendous such as great shrines and holy places. 3 = regional travel, exposure to the commercially sensible, pre-packaged, and scripted such as all-inclusive holidays and business hotels.

  • (Once a fellow with [uchcha] Kuja in 3, four graha receiving Kuja dosha in 6, empty 9 and empty 12, told me that he had travelled the world and 'seen everything there is' during a career that brought him to 1000 airports and innumerable five-star business hotels. Never once, in 30 years and hundreds of cities, had he visited a holy temple. His place of * worth-ship * worship was apparently the airport cocktail bar. A busy man, he rested little and did not mind sleeping apart from his wife. He did not remember his dreams.

  • 6, opposite of 12, = inability to co-exist, resistance to inclusiveness, and refusal to expand. 6 is a place of great frustration caused by enslavement to the petty details of one single lifetime.

  • 12 is by contrast a spiritually relaxed, peaceful, image-rich multiple-life environment. Yet 12 is a distracted place. It is difficult if not impossible to manage two or more lives simultaneously. However, the nativity with strength in 12 will find that the Ancestral spirits stand ready and willing to serve . 12 is the house of prayer.

  • In 6, not much may improve, no matter how much one asks for help, due to the argumentative, litigious, petitionary method via which 6 does the asking. In 12, help is merely an astral image away. To ask from willing spirits is to instantly (no time, no space) and bountifully receive.

QUOTATION

" The most painful thing on earth is a pleasant memory.

  • This nostalgia that sometimes comes over us isn't an accident. It's a message. It has something to tell us.

  • We're programmed to indulge in life, but this haunting nostalgia is a subliminal message from another plane. It's the homing instinct of the mundane mind.

  • At its best, it's what draws us back to the Father.

  • Nostalgia is a window to the soul, and the soul is lost to man as he lives.

Nostalgia is the soul's memory of prior experience.

Touching it, you touch the Eternal." ~~ Richard Rose

Maternal Grandfather and Paternal Grandmother

The single most important person in anyone's life, whether this core relationship may be easy or challenging, is the mother.

In most cultures, the second most important person at least in childhood is the mother's mother, who is found in the 4th-from-Chandra. Maternal grandmother's home = 4th-from-4th, kalatra bhava.

  • Maternal Grandfather is (emotionally) 9th-from-Chandra and (materially) 9th-from-4th = vyaya bhava .

  • Paternal Grandmother = (emotionally) 4th-from-9th-from-Chandra and (materially) 4th-from-9th = vyaya bhava .

  • Although these two grandparents have different emotional relationships to the native, both maternal grandfather and paternal grandmother are materially represented by conditions in the native 's 12th house.

Consistent with their profile in 12th from lagna, both mother's father and father's mother tend to play more background roles socially and emotionally than, by contrast, the mother's mother in the dominant seventh house.

One blessed with a busy vyayasthāna might find that the social or spiritual influence of the father's mother and the mother's father is remarkably strong. Often these relatives have left their bodies before we are born; yet, one may hear their psychic voices, or feel an impulse to follow in their footsteps.

Cleanliness

" The environment where you are doing the meditation should be properly cleaned.

While cleaning, you should cultivate the motivation that since you are engaged in the task of accumulating great stores of merit by inviting the hosts of buddhas and bodhisattvas to this environment, it is important to have a clean place.

  • You should see that all the external dirt and dust around you is basically a manifestation of the faults and stains within your own mind.

  • You should see that the most important aim is to purge these stains and faults from within your mind.

  • Therefore, as you cleanse the environment, think that you are also purifying your mind .

Develop the very strong thought that by cleaning this place you are inviting the host of buddhas and bodhisattvas who are the most supreme merit field, and that you will subsequently engage in a path that will enable you to purge your mind of the stains of delusions ."
